Junior T.K. Guess hangs onto the ball after intercepting one of three passes against Webster, tying a school record.

Guess intercepts 3 as Rockets win 34-7

Dixon, Ky. (Sept. 24, 2004) - Rocket quarterback Austin Berry continued his needlework Friday night, stitching four passing touchdowns around 172 yards through air as Crittenden County ripped the game open early and notched its fourth victory in five outings 34-7 at Webster County.

While Berry was throwing for touchdowns of 32, 64, 18 and 31 yards, teammate T.K. Guess set up his own no passing zone defensively, reeling in a record-tying three interceptions in the game.

Guess was the playmaker from the outset, returning the opening kickoff to the Webster 32 then caught the game's second pass for a touchdown. Guess grabbed four of Berry's seven completions for 91 yards, including another touchdown late in the third period. Blake Gardner and Cody Robinson also hauled in TD receptions and Josh Franklin ran for one as Crittenden led 28-0 at the half.

The Rockets scored on four of their first five possessions and Berry's quick-strike passes helped his team put three touchdowns on the board before the offense had managed a single first down.

Webster County picked up the intensity in the second half and used senior running back Shea Anglin's 104 yards rushing to keep the ball away from Crittenden's explosive offense. Webster rushed for 169 yards on 45 running plays, but couldn't get anything going through the air after starting quarterback Steven Turner was carried off the field on the first series with what was believed to be a broken collarbone. Backup Benjamin Boone completed five of 14 passes, but Guess lurking in the secondary kept the Trojan QB honest.

Injuries hurt Crittenden in the second half. Two of three starting linebackers, Blake Gardner (ankle) and Dustin Easley (concussion), were knocked out of the game, leaving the defense a patchwork of reserves to handle Webster's late running game.

The victory improves Crittenden to 4-1 as the Rockets complete their non-district schedule. Metcalfe County, the defending Class A Second District champion, comes to Marion to open the league schedule next week.
