Rockets steal win from Trigg

CADIZ, Ky. - Crittenden County's Tim Hill and Payton Croft scored the last three points at the foul line and Zack Beverly stole Trigg County's last possession as the Rockets won 66-63 at Trigg County to guarantee at least a share of the Fifth District regular season title.

Payton Croft scored 18 points, Tim Hill 13, Cody Robinson 12 and T.K. Guess 10 as Crittenden came back from a narrow deficit late in the game. The Rockets led by as many as 11 points in the game, but Trigg made a big comeback and took a lead in the fourth quarter.

Trigg's Prince Northington, who scored a game-high 19, tied the game with one of two foul shots with a minute to go, but Hill and Croft nailed it down late with free throws.

Beverly's steal with about 20 seconds gave Crittenden the ball with a one-point lead. Croft was fouled and hit both shots with eight seconds left to ice it.

Senior forward Nick Parker did not play for the second straight game because of a thumb injury. Guess, starting for the first time, scored six first-quarter points. Croft finished with four treys.

Now, Crittenden can finish no worse than tied for first in the district. Lyon County plays at Trigg next week to decide the final standings. A Lyon win would mean a first-place tie with Crittenden. The Rockets are 7-1 in the district and 12-6 overall. Lyon is 6-1 in district play. A first place tie in the district's final standings will mean that a coin toss will determine the No. 1 seed for post-season play.
