DECEMBER 29, 2005 ISSUE

McIntosh
BURNA, Ky. ­ Funeral services for Walter T. McIntosh, Sr., 93, were held Dec. 23, 2005 at Boyd Funeral Home. Rev. Bennie Chandler officiated, with burial in Hampton Cemetery.
McIntosh died Dec. 20 at Salem Springlake Care Center. He was employed by Central State Hospital for 45 years.
Surviving are three sons, Walter T. McIntosh, Jr., of Burna, Eddy McIntosh of Mount Washington and Wendall McIntosh of LaGrange; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother; a sister; his wife, Juanita Turner McIntosh; and his parents, Minor and Myrtie Tomlinson McIntosh.

Truitt
Ruby Truitt, 86, of Marion, died Dec. 25, 2005 at Livingston Hospital. She was a 49-year member of the Eastern Star and VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Services were Dec. 28 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis with Rev. Tom Easley officiating. Burial was in Green's Chapel in Crittenden County.
Surviving are two great-nieces, Donna Lauderdale of Mt. Vernon, Ind., and Diane Kelley of Dale, Ind and other great-nieces and nephews.

Belt
SPRING HILL, Fla. ­ Funeral services for Scott Belt, 39, formerly of Morganfield, were held Dec. 28, 2005 at Whitsell Funeral Home. Belt died Dec. 22 at Oakhill Medical Center in Brooksville, Fla. Rev. Randy Stallings officiated. Burial was in Odd Fellow Cemetery.
He was a registered nurse and had worked for Home Health in Union County and had also worked in the ER in Evansville and Henderson.
Surviving are his wife, Kimberly Belt of Spring Hill; his mother, Linda Ricketts Taylor and stepfather Wesley Taylor of Owensboro; his father, Harlan Belt and stepmother Judy Belt of Marion; a daughter, Jesse Belt at home; a son, Sam Belt at home; a sister, Lisa Lovell Evans of Owensboro; two half brothers, Sean Belt and Chad Belt, both of Marion; and three nephews.

Bennett
LOUISVILLE, Ky. ­ Velda Rhea Bennett, 80, formerly of Marion, died Dec. 27, 2005.
She was a member of Highview Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons, Jim Bennett of Houston, Texas and Clinton Bennett of Seattle, Wash.; two brothers, Billy Malcom of Louisville and Paul Malcom of Crayne; and a sister, Edna Vaughn of Louisville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Murrel Bennett. Her parents were Earl and Zula Malcolm of Crittenden County.
Services are at 1 p.m., on Dec. 29 at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road, Louisville with burial to follow in Highland Memory Gardens.

James
Earl Frazer James, 95, of Marion, died Dec. 23, 2005 at Crittenden Hospital. He was a member of Marion United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Imogene Stout James; and two stepsons, Alan Stout and Keith Stout, both of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Amy Weldon James. His parents were J.J. and Cora Bell James.
A memorial service was held Dec. 26 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Rev. Wayne Garvey officiated.

Harris
PADUCAH, Ky. ­ Services for Joseph P. Harris, 27, were Dec. 23, 2005 at Boyd Funeral Home. Rev. Chris Wooley officiated. Burial was in Salem Cemetery.
He died Dec. 19 at his home.
Surviving are his mother, Sandra Chesnut of Paducah; a sister, Crystal Jordan Goode of Lancaster; two grandmothers, Sue Tabor of Paducah and Jean Harris of San Antonio, Texas; a step grandmother, Bernice Harris of Benton; a niece; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Steven Gregory Harris; and two grandfathers, Silas Tabor and Joseph Harris.

Rector
MADISONVILLE, Ky. ­ Kenneth Franklin Rector, Sr., 46, died Dec. 22, 2005 at Regional Medical Center. He was a member of the Local 207 Union in Paducah.
He is survived by his mother, Daisy Mae Alexander Rector; a daughter, Jennifer Lucille Messamore of Madisonville; a son, Kenneth Franklin Rector, Jr., of Madisonville; six sisters, Judy Crunk of Madisonville, Gail Cook and Sherry Rector, both of Central City, Rhonda Whitfield of Madisonville, Felicia Wright of Mortons Gap and Chrystal Combs of Madisonville; two brothers, Bobby Rector of Eddyville and Jimmy Rector of Sebree; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Franklin Delano Rosevelt Rector.
Services were Dec. 24 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home. Burial was in Onton Cemetery in Onton.

Woodall
Mattie Willene Woodall, 85, of Marion, died Dec. 24, 2005 at Salem Springlake Health and Rehab. She was a member of Crooked Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services were Dec. 27 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Bernard Watson officiating. Burial was in Crayne Cemetery.
Survivors include five sons, Arnold Douglas Woodall and Maurice Woodall, both of Marion, John William Woodall of Joy, Larry Woodall of Eddyville and Oliver Clinton Woodall of Kuttawa; two daughters, Linda Gilland of Fredonia and Lana Sisco of Marion; a brother, J.B. Oliver of Newburgh, Ind., a sister, Wanda Caddick of Evansville; 16 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Houston Woodall; a granddaughter, Lori Perkins; a grandson, John Woodall, Jr.; and two brothers. Her parents were William Otto "Jack" and Liddie Grace Brasher Oliver.

Collins
Gary W. Collins, 71, of Marion, died Dec. 20, 2005 at Princeton Health Care Manor.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Jan. 7, 2006 at Marion Church of Christ. Rev. Bill McCormick will officiate. Funeral Director Services of Symsonia is in charge of arrangements.
Collins was a member of Marion Church of Christ, was a retired truck driver, and an U.S. Air Force veteran who served in the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Guiula Judy Collins of Marion; a son, John Collins of Benton; two daughters, Laurie Weygandt of Canton, Ohio and Tracey Kunstek of Lakemore, Ohio; five grandchildren; one step grandchild; and two step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter E. and Annie Horne Collins.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. ­ Joseph "Joe" Blackburn, 53, died Nov. 29, 2006. Services were Dec. 2 at J.C. Kirby & Son in Bowling Green. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.  He was the parts manager for Bowling Green International Truck & Trailer. He was a member and elder of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, youth leader and videographer, coached Little League and church league baseball and played on the church league. He was also active in the church meals program.
Surviving are a daughter, Kim (Brian) Cowles and Brandon Blackburn, both of Bowling Green; three brothers; Ronnie (Nancy) Landreth of Marion, Eddie (Shirley) Landreth of Fredonia and Tommy Blackburn of Bowling Green; a grandson, Evan Cowles of Bowling Green; a niece, two nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.

Lillian E. Walker, 86, of Marion, died Dec. 18, 2005 at Crittenden Hospital. She attended Marion Church of Christ.
Services were Dec. 20 at Gilbert Funeral Home with burial in Mapleview Cemetery. Rev. Bill McCormick officiated.
Surviving are a brother, William R. Heines of Marion; a niece and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Walker; and a sister.

Jones
GRAND RIVERS, Ky. ­ Chester Jones, 92, died Dec. 15, 2005 at Salem Springlake Health and Rehab. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Funeral services were Dec. 18 at Smith Funeral Chapel. Rev. C.C. Brasher and Rev. Brent Lee officiated. Burial was in Landrum cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Minnie Jones; two sons, James Jones of Smithland and Lee Jones of Grand Rivers; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dudley and Bessie Jones; and a brother, Forest Jones.
McDowell
Cleo McDowell, 73, of Marion, died Dec. 17, 2005 at Western Baptist Hospital. He was a member of Repton Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Louise McDowell of Marion; five sons, Michael McDowell, Perry McDowell, Mark McDowell and David McDowell, all of Marion and Wayne McDowell of Henderson; three sisters, Vada Duncan of Marion, Peggy McDowell of Tulsa, Okla., and Polly Chandler of Sturgis; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services were Dec. 19 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Rev. Roger Waters officiated. Burial was in Crowell Cemetery.

PORTAGE, Ind. ­ Clifton Garth Driver, Sr., 64, died Dec. 17, 2005 at the Canterbury Place Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Valparaiso, Ind. He was the owner and operator of Driver & Son Concrete.
He is survived by 13 children, Clifton (Kim) Driver Jr. of Lake Station, Ind., Greg (Barb) Driver of Portage, Ind., Jeff (Karen) Driver of Murray, Terry Driver of Portage, Ind., Belinda (Tony) Campbell of Fredonia, Shana (Jeff) Duncan of Henderson, Tammy Driver of Marion, Shandra (Tommy) Williams of Marion, Garth Clifton (Kristi) Driver of Portage, Ind., Lucas Parish of Marion, Ill., Randy (Tammy) Cowsert of Marion, Candy (Stony) Mills of Marion and Carol Thomas of Marion; 39 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three brothers, Ralph (Ronna) Driver of Knox, Ind., Faron (Tabitha) Driver of North Judson, Ind., Kamen Driver of Murray; six sisters, Dean Neighbors of Murray Viva (Charles) Tinsley of Hopkinsville, Brenda (Mike) Davis of Old Hickory, Tenn., Starr (Tom) Lewellyn of Murray, Rebecca Conger of Marion and Detra (Jerry) Campbell of Marion; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy Ryan Driver; and four sisters, Verna Driver, Thelma Sexton, Glyna Sanders and Gloria Blackmon. His parents were Allie Ray and Nellie Gladys (Knight) Driver.
Funeral services were Dec. 21 at the Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, Portage, Ind. Burial was in McCool Cemetery in Portage.
A local memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Dec. 31 at Hebron Baptist Church in Lyon County.

Jones
SALEM, Ky. ­ Services for Aubrey Radcliffe Jones, 92, were Dec. 21, 2005 at Boyd Funeral Home. Burial was in Paradise Cemetery.
Jones, a member of Paradise United Methodist Church, died Dec. 10 at his home.
Surviving are three daughters, Elsa Irene Moore of Mesquite, Texas, Ruby Lee Reeves of Decatur, Texas and Stella Mae Jones of Salem; a son, Clifton L. Jones of Mesquite, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle M. Dinsmore Jones; five brothers; and two sisters. His parents were Robert Lee and Amanda Johnson Jones.

Katherine Sue Jones, 52, of Marion, died Dec. 15, 2005 at Crittenden Hospital. She was a member and co-pastor at Miracle Word Church in Salem.
Surviving are her husband, William "Billy" Jones of Marion; two daughters, Dana (Mike) Doom and Kayla Jones, both of Marion; her mother, Edna Evelyn Wilson of Salem; a brother, Blan Wilson, Jr., of Sharpe; three sisters, Mona Gay Swinford of Frankfort, Lois Rhea chittenden of Lola and Darlene Hunter of Salem; and a granddaughter, Callie Doom of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her father, Blan Wilson, Sr,; a sister; and a brother.
Services were Dec. 17 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Baldock officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Cemetery.

MORGANFIELD, Ky. ­ Mary Virginia Hart, 81, died Dec. 15, 2005 at New Harmonie Healthcare in New Harmony, Ind. Services were Dec. 17 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. Rev. Frank McCallum officiated. Burial was in Odd Fellow Cemetery in Morganfield.
She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Morganfield.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Walter of Evansville and Kay Greenwell of Uniontown; a son, Keith Hart of Marion; a sister, Margaret Stone of Sturgis; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, L.G. Hart; two brothers, William Harness and Fred Harness, Jr.; and two sisters, Emma McGree and Dorothy Murrell.

Ola Mae Gilland, 84, of Marion, died Dec. 10, 2005 at Crittenden Health and Rehab. She was a member of Piney Fork Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by four daughters, Carolyn (Harold) Cannon of Marion, Ola Rhea Crider of Marion, Elaine (Ronnie) Shinall of Marion and Connie Gilland of Fredonia*; three sons, Vernon (Linda) Gilland of Fredonia, Paul Gilland of Fredonia and Dwight Gilland of Paducah.; 12 grandchildren, Kim George, Suzanne Eberle, Gina Brown, Greg Crider, Tricia Gage, Jonathan Gilland, Rhonda Shinall, Keith Shinall, Jayson Gilland, Michael Gilland, Patrick Gilland and Jennifer Starnes; several great-grandchildren; several step grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Gilland; a daughter, Faye George; and two granddaughters, Lori Perkins and Carol Ann Hughes. Her parents were Charles and Lillie Mae Barnes.
Funeral services were Dec. 12 at Gilbert Funeral Home. Rev. Cortis Hill and Rev. Tim Burdon officiated. Burial was in Mexico Cemetery.

Gilland
FREDONIA, Ky. ­ Funeral services for Connie Gilland, 55, will be held at 11 a.m., Dec. 16, 2005 at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Cortis Hill and Rev. Curtis Franklin officiating. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery in Lyon County.
Gilland died Dec. 14 at Crittenden Health Systems.
Surviving are a son, Jayson (Teresa) Gilland; three sisters, Carolyn (Harold) Cannon, Ola Rhea Crider and Elaine (Ronnie) Shinall, all of Marion; three brothers, Vernon (Linda) Gilland and Paul Gilland, both of Fredonia and Dwight Gilland of Paducah; two grandchildren, Dakota Gilland, Alyssa Gilland; three step-grandchildren, Nikki Odom, Nathan Odom and Natalie Odom; two step great-grandchildren, Nolan Odom and Hannah Posten.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Faye George; and her parents, Ray and Mae Gilland.

Byler
Barbara N. Byler, 76, of the Amish community in Crittenden County, died Dec. 12, 2005 at her home.
Surviving are four daughters, Alta Miller, Cora Miller and Sarah Byler, all of Marion, and Emma Miller of Dover, Del; seven sons, Joseph Byler of Dover, Del., Allen Byler, Enoch Byler and Marvin Byler, all of Fredonia, Penn., Rudy Byler of Charlotte Mich., David Byler of Marion and Paul Byler of Wyoming, Del.; 87 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 9 a.m., Dec. 16 at David R. Byler's residence in the Amish community. Burial will be in the Amish Community Cemetery.

Drennan
Hazel C. Drennan, 82, of Marion, died Dec. 11, 2005 at Crittenden Hospital. She was a charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Services were Dec. 13 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Rev. Tim Baker and Rev. Rob Ison officiated. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Gilbert Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Surviving are a daughter, Winona Woodside of Marion; a son, Roger Drennan of Marion; a sister, Betty Teague of Providence; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred Drennan; a son, David W. Drennan; and her parents, Elmer and Letha Gold.

Phelps
FREDONIA, Ky. ­ Vivian Phelps, 95, died Dec. 10, 2005 at Crittenden Hospital. She was a member of Fredonia Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Services were Dec. 12 at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton. Rev. Don Phelps and Rev. Curtis Franklin officiated. Burial was in Asher Cemetery.
Surviving are six sons, Marion Ivy Phelps, Darrel "Buzz" Phelps and Billy Ray Phelps, all of Fredonia, Jerry Phelps of Lexington, Rev. Don Phelps of Sturgis and Doug Phelps of Lyon County; two daughters, Nancy Huffstutter of Princeton and Margie Carner of Lyon County; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Reginald Phelps, a sister, a brother and a granddaughter. Her parents were James Ivy and Novella Clift Moore.

HERNANDO, Fla. ­ Jennie Lee Henry, 73, formerly of Dycusburg, died Dec. 11, 2005 at her home. She was a retired production worker for Continental Can in Gary, Ind.
Surviving are her husband, Russell Louie Henry of Hernando; a daughter, Kathy Henry of Tallahassee; two brothers, Ben Hall of Lake Station, Ind., and John Hall of Eddyville; a sister, LaVerne Jamriska of Sarasota, Fla.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Chastine Reece, DeGarth Reece, Allen Reece and Gaylen Hall.

Lillian Cox May, 94, of Marion, died Dec. 10, 2005 at her home. She was a member of Deer Creek Baptist Church, the retired teachers associations of Indiana and Kentucky and was past president of the Eastern Kentucky University Alumni Association.
Surviving are two daughters, Marilyn Iddings of Marion and Betty Steele of Sikeston, Mo.; six grandchildren, Beth Steele of New Castle, Ind., Keith (Caryn) Steele of Marion, Jo Ann Steele of Indianapolis, Ind., Carolyn (Scott) Parker of Denver, Colo., Jonathan (Jana) Iddings of Bowling Green and Amy Iddings of Marion; five great-grandchildren, Shawn Steele and Chelsea Steele, both of Marion, Zach Parker, Sam Parker and Meg Parker, all of Denver, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Charles May; three brothers; and three sisters. Her parents were Preston R. and Nettie Boulware Cox.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Tedford; two sons, Bobby Gene Tedford and Bill Tedford; and a sister, Velaine Clayton. Her parents were Rufus Harry Elder and Myrtie Farmer Elder.

Bradburn
CHESHIRE, Conn. ­ Virginia Meadows Bradburn, formerly of Princeton, died Dec. 2, 2005 at Southington Care Center.
Surviving are a son, H. Benjamin Bradburn of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Elizabeth Ellen Bradburn-Assoian of Wayne, Pa., and Carol Ann B. Celella of Cheshire; and four grandchildren.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gilliam Wright and Gladys Collins; and three brothers, Sellars Hart, Russell Hart and L.G. Hart. Her parents were George Russell and Eura Hart.

Hall
SMITHLAND, Ky. ­ Lloyd L. Hall, 87, died Dec. 14, 2005 at his home. He was a member of Cave Springs Missionary Baptist Church where he was a deacon for 55 years. He was the recipient of a 63-year membership pin from the Ohio River Baptist Association.
Surviving are two sons, Billy Ray Hall and Robbie Hall, both of Joy; a daughter, Marie Hall Patterson of Paducah; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Marie Adams Hall; two sons, Larry Dale Hall and Jesse "Popeye" Franklin Hall; a sister; a great-grandchild; and his parents, Jesse Marion Hall and Mary Alice Dunning Hall.
Services are at 1 p.m., Dec. 16 at Boyd Funeral Home. Rev. Jim Wring and Rev. Gary Murray will officiate. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery.

CROSSVILLE, Ill. ­ Methel Roxie Ingram, 89, died Nov. 29, 2005 at White County Medical Center Hospital in Carmi, Ill. Services were Dec. 3 at Cook Funeral Chapel in Crossville.
Ingram was a member of the Methodist church in Crossville, was a musician and was a member of an evangelical quartet for many years.
Surviving are two sons, Larry Ingram of Rockville, Md., and Ed Ingram of Chalfont, Pa.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garcia Ingram; and her parents, Charles and Ella Bolen Bryan.

Cleo Hughes, 95, of Marion, died Dec. 3, 2005 at Crittenden Health and Rehab. She was a member of Piney Fork Presbyterian Church.

LAPORT, Ind. ­ Delmer Lee Newcom, 73, died Nov. 2, 2005. He was born in Crittenden County and lived in Hobart, Ind., before moving to Laport. He was a Korean War veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Joan Newcom; a brother, Glenn Newcom of Louisville; three sisters, Mary K. Newcom Chandler of Sturgis, Elwanda Newcom McDowell of Marion and Janey Newcom Syers of High Ridge, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Elliott James Robert Brown, infant son of Shelbie Caraway Newberry and James Brown of Marion, died Nov. 1, 2005 of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

SALEM, Ky. ­ Horace Denton Lasher, 85, died Oct. 29, 2005. He was mayor of Salem in the 1980s, leading improvements that included sewer and water systems and street signs. He was a member of Hampton United Methodist Church and was a Kentucky Colonel.
He grew up in Kentucky but lived n Cleveland, Ohio for two decades where he owned a television business. He opened a television business in Salem as well.
He held a expert class ham radio license and received his Worked All States award in 1994. He communicated in Morse code with people around the world.
He is survived by his wife, Inez; two daughters, Nola (Bob) Melcher of Boulder, Colo., and Rose (Ted) Czupik of Cleveland, Ohio; a son, Steven (Bonnie) Lasher of Jeffersonville, Ind.; five grandsons, Ted Jr., Andy and Patrick Czupik and Dwight and Grant Melcher; three great-granddaughters ; and two step great-granddaughters; and a brother, Alvin Lasher of Akron, Ohio.
His parents were Alva Hampton Lasher and Alvin Lasher

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. Chris Manning, 48, died Oct. 25, 2005 at North Western Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He was a native of Greenville N.C.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, an employee of Zeiss Meditec in medical equipment sales. He received a bachelor of science from East Carolina State University. He was a board member of the Pregnancy Support Center, member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes where he was secretary and a former member of the Greenville N.C., JCs.
He is survived by his wife, Michele Ramage Manning, formerly of Marion; a daughter, Shelby Manning of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a son, Davis Manning of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, J.B. and Helen Ramage of Murfreesboro, formerly of Marion; numerous cousins and aunts.

MADISONVILLE, Ky. ­ Hiram Glenn DeMoss, 52, died Oct. 23, 2005. He was a maintenance foreman for Peabody Coal Company for many years.
He is survived by a daughter, Alisha DeMoss of Cincinnati, Ohio; four sisters, Patricia DeMoss of Evansville, Gail DeMoss, Sharon Harper and Karen LeGrand, all of Madisonville; several nieces and nephews.

Margie J.Gillespie, 87, of Marion, died Oct. 13, 2005 at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah. She was a member of Repton Baptist Church and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Shekell

Shekell died Oct. 5 at his home. He was a graduate of Livingston Central High School and Murray State University and held a law degree from Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif. He practiced law for 10 years in Paducah and 10 years in California.

James Robert Waide, 58, of Marion, died Sept. 25, 2005 in a motorcycle accident near Madisonville.
He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the Marines and was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club.

PADUCAH, Ky. ­ Christopher Rothwell Wahl, 43, died Sept. 26, 2005 at Lourdes Hospital. He was a member of the International Operating Engineers Local 181; a member of Grace Church International; and was a graduate of Paducah Tilghman High School.

Fern
CALVERT CITY, Ky. ­ Jim Fern, 72, died Sept. 7, 2005 at his home. He served in the U.S. Army and was an active member of First Baptist Church in Calvert City, Kentucky.
He began his teaching career in Marion in 1956. In 1958, he was appointed as Music Director for Hopkinsville schools. He was the State Supervisor of Music from 1966-1967. In the following years, he taught band at Reidland and Benton middle schools. He had conducted various church choirs in the western Kentucky area, was a KMEA adjudicator and guest conductor for many All-District bands and recognized as Kentucky's Outstanding Young Educator.
He served as the Executive Secretary of Kentucky Music Educators Association for 32 years. During his tenure with KMEA, he received the KMEA Distinguished Service Award as well as the Friend of Music Award.
Fern served as broker of Fern Real Estate and two independent insurance agencies. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Carolyn Coakley Fern; a son, Bob Fern of Florida; a son, Jay Fern of Indianapolis, Ind.; a daughter, Martha Fern of Phoenix, Ariz.; and four grandsons.

LONG GROVE, Ill. ­ Martha Brannam, 86, formerly of Salem, died Sept. 3, 2005 at Alden Nursing Home. She was a long-time member of Emmaus Baptist Church and a 25-year employee of Sears in Chicago.

Orenduff
TUCSON, Ariz. ­ James Randell Orenduff, 79, died Sept. 7, 2005. He was born in Crittenden County and moved to Tucson in 1956. He served in World War II and was retired from San Manuel Copper Mine where he worked as an electrician and with their early computer systems.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn; a daughter, Sue; and sons Larry and Wayne; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and six sisters and two brothers of Marion.
Services were Sept. 12 in Tucson with burial in East Lawn Cemetery.

Gahagen
EVANSVILLE, Ind. ­ George Elmer Gahagen, 83, died Sept. 7, 2005 at Deaconess Hospice Care Center.
He was born in Crittenden County, graduated from Mattoon High School and retired from Arkla after 25 years of service. He was a member of Albright United Methodist Church and a 60- year member of the Wheatcroft Masonic Lodge #881.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Helene (Santy) Gahagen; a daughter, Joyce Silver of Evansville; three sons, Warren Silver, Jr., Terry Silver and Darce Silver, all of Evansville; two sisters, Ada White of Crittenden County and Geneva Franks of Sun City, Ariz.; a brother, Roy Gahagen of Crittenden County; and several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. ­ Wilma Lee "Ma" Loftis, 93, died July 22 at her home. She was born in Crittenden County.
She attended Family Altar Chapel and while living in Kentucky sang alto with the gospel quartet, "Faithful Four."
She is survived by two sons, William "Carlton" Loftis of Battle Creek, and Charles "Slim" Loftis of Mansfield, Ohio; a daughter, Thelma Royer of Battle Creek; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Guthrie C. Tharp of Morton, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall and Bessie Harris Tharp; four sisters; two brothers; and a son, Robert "Bob" Wayne Loftis.

LITTLETON, Colo. ­ Judy E. Belt St. John, 58, died July 18, 2005. She was born in Mt. Vernon, Ill., and lived in Battle Creek most of her life, serving with many non-profit groups such as MADD and Relay for Life.

Byford
WHEATCROFT, Ky. ­ Marshall L. Byford, 70, died July 24, 2005 at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi, Ill. He retired from Peabody Coal Company and was a U.S. Army veteran and member of Clay First Baptist Church where he was the song leader and a Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of Wheatcroft Masonic Lodge No. 881, Madisonville Rizpah Shriners and Scottish Rite.
Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Deen of Norris City, Ill.; three sisters, Pam Marlowe of Fredonia, Barbara Mercer of Princeton and Mary Moody of Eddyville; three brothers, Charles Byford and Ronnie Byford, both of Columbia and Gerald Byford of Star City, Ark.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded ind death by his wife, Katie.

EDDYVILLE, Ky. ­ Eldress Dottie Bacon, 56, died July 25, 2005 at Western Baptist Hospital. She was pastor of Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church in Salem. She was vice-moderator of the Eddyville District Conference until her election as moderator.

MORGANFIELD, Ky. ­ Funeral services for Josephine Hite Drury, 86, were held July 19, 2005 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Terry Devine officiated. Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery in Waverly. She died July 17 at Morganfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She graduated from St. Vincent Academy in 1937. She and her husband opened Drury's Candyland in 1962, which they owned and operated until their retirement.
Surviving are two daughters, Yvonne Davis of Morganfield and Margie Belt of Marion; two sons, Marlin Drury of Waverly and James Drury of Gilbertsville; a sister, Florence Henshaw of Morganfield; a brother, James Roy Lambert of Evansville; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Clinton; a son, Don Drury; her step father, Roy Lambert; and her mother, Margaret Lambert.

John R. Wolf, Jr., 19, of Marion, died July 11, 2005 in a car accident in Lyon County. (See story, page 1A).
Wolf was a member of Life in Christ Church where he played drums and guitar in the Christian bands Monday's Voice, Final Reign and Life in Christ Praise Group.
He is survived by his mother, Sharon Winters of Marion; his father, John Wolf, Sr., of Clarksville; his stepfather, Billy Winters of Marion; his stepmother, Kim Wolf of Clarksville; four sisters, Christina Cinkovich, Nicole Quinton, Jennifer Wolf, all of Marion, and Melanie Long of Bowling Green; and his grandparents, Herman and Ioma Dortch of Shawneetown, Ill.

Ruby B. Hodge, 89, of Marion, died July 3, 2005 at Crittenden County Health and Rehab. She was a member of Marion United Methodist Church and retired from Moore Business Forms.

Gladys Conger, 82, of Marion, died July 4, 2005 at Western Baptist Hospital.
She was a member of St. William Catholic Church.

Services for Donald E. Martin, 69, of Marion, were July 1, 2005 at Boyd Funeral Home. Rev. David Fambrough officiated with Burial with was in Union Baptist Cemetery.
Martin died June 28 at Western Baptist Hospital. He was of the Presbyterian faith and was a veteran of the Korean War.

O'FALLON, Ill.-Ret. USAF Chief Master Sgt. Dennis Leon Peek, 56, died June 25, 2005 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. He was born in Eddyville, Ky. He served 30 years in the U.S. Air Force and retired from AFCA at Scott AFB in 1998. He most recently was employed by ARC as a defense contractor at Scott AFB. He was a member of Scott AFB Chief's Group; Air Force Sergeant's Association; American Legion; and a member of the Kentucky Colonels. He was a U.S. Air Force Vietnam War Veteran and served two tours of duty in Vietnam, one in Thialand, and one in Korea.
Surviving are his wife, Patty Fitzgerald of O'Fallon, Ill.; a daughter Tricia (Jon) Brown of O'Fallon, Ill.; a son Todd (Andrea) Peek of Shiloh, Ill.; three brothers, Rev.
