Gillespie
Frank A. Gillespie, 91, of Marion died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009 at his home.
He was a retired river boat pilot, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of the Bigham Lodge #256. Gillespie went to work on the river in 1949 as a deck hand. When he retired in 1982, he had worked his way up to captain.
Surviving are his three daughters, Helen McConnell, Sue McDowell and Carolyn Hinchee, all of Marion; 10 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Margie Gillespie in 2005 after almost 68 years of marriage; parents, Jack and Stella Gahgan Gillespie; and two brothers.
Graveside services were Sunday, Dec. 27 at Mount Zion Cemetery in Marion with Bro. Tommy Brown officiating. About 100 people attended the service. Gilbert Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Combs
Raymond Edward Combs, 60, of Providence died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009 at his home.
Survivors include his wife Ida L. Combs; a son, Tommy Lee Comes of Piney Creek, N.C.; two daughters, Donna Faye Trivett of Sparta, N.C., and Melissa Lyvon Crouse of Glade Valley, N.C.; two brothers, Roger Combs of Yakinville, N.C., and Odele Combs of Hillsville, Va.; two sisters, Barbara Cornett of Cleveland N.C., and Nancy Cannon of Gresham, S.C.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a step-son Raymond Finch of Sebree; two step-daughters Michelle Scott of Hopkinsville, Jeana Sanchez of Dixon; four step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Cremation was handled by Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion.

Rustin
Clarence E. Rustin, 85, of Fredonia, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009 at his home. He was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Ronald Earl Rustin and wife Linda of Fredonia; two daughters, Margaret Faye West and husband Steve of Princeton and Dianne Kitzman of Marion; three brothers, Everett Rustin and Lawrence Rustin, both of Princeton, and John Paul Rustin of Swortz Creek, Mich.; three grandchildren, Belinda Campbell and Tony, Sabrina Stokes and Richard Rustin; and six great-grandchildren, Alex and Anthony Campbell, Kailyn and Hudson Stokes and Breanna and Dalton Rustin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Virginia Rustin; a brother, Eldon Rustin; a sister, Thelma Cook; and his parents, Gideon Darrell and Willie Frances Campbell Rustin.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 29 at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton. Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Alexander
Larry Edward Alexander, 59, of Marion died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009.
Alexander was a member of Pleasant Grove General Baptist Church, where his father is the pastor.
He was born April 26, 1950 in Marion to Rev. Herbert and Rachel Arflack Alexander. His grandparents were the late Earl and Rosa Mae Arflack and the late Rev. Herbert Sr., and Birdie Alexander. He, alongside his father and brother, operated the family farm near Tolu for over 40 years.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Brenda Sue Belt Alexander, two daughters, Shannon Gail Alexander Glisson and husband Matt and Sherri Dawn Alexander Pruit and husband Scott Pruit; and two grandchildren, Cody Allen Pruit and Hilary Renna Pruit.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 27, at Boyd Funeral Directors in Salem with Rev. Gary Hardesty officiating. Burial was at Mapleview Cemetery in Marion.

Watson
Norris “Pete” W. Watson, 78, formerly of Salem died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at his home in Oakland City, Ind.
He was a retired truck driver and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a former member of the Cedar Grove Methodist Church, a member of the Winslow VFW and the Masonic Lodge #64 of Evansville.
He was born on Dec. 30, 1931 in Salem to Hershel and Alta Singleton Watson, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were two sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Watson of Oakland City; son, Don Watson of Oakland City; daughter, Debby Harris of Velpen, Ind.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Watson of Michigan.
There was visitation Sunday, Jan. 3 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City. Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 5 at Myers Funeral Home in Marion. Burial was at Salem Cemetery in Salem.

Little
Angela Marie Little, 25, of Crayne died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Kevin Little of Crayne; daughters, Felonie and Linda Little, both of Crayne; step-daughter- Marylinda Sisco of Marion; father, Bobby Cudnik of Marion; mother, Lori Cole of Marion; and a brother, Robert “Boo” Cudnik of Marion.
Graveside services were Wednesday, Jan. 6 at Rosebud Cemetery in rural Crittenden County.
Myers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Meeks
Mary Agnes Meeks, 83, of Marion died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 at Livingston Hospital.
She was a housewife and member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Surviving are her two daughters, Patsy and husband Kenneth Locke and Faye and husband Tony Binkley both of Marion; son, Tommy and wife Alice Meeks of Marion, 23 grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Beulah Hamby Fralick; husband, Eugene Meeks; sons Dale and Buddy Meeks and a daughter, Louise Givens.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 2 at Myers Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Roger Waters and Rev. Bill Crabtree officiating. Burial was at Mapleview Cemetery.

Riley
Cornelia Riley, 95, of Burna died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 at Livingston Hospital.
She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Burna and was the oldest living member. She was a former school teacher, sang in the church choir and decorated the church on special occasions. She taught in the Livingston County School system for 39 years, having retired in 1981.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith, of Burna; a sister, Lucille Mahan of Joy, Ky; a niece, Marcille Mahan and her husband Jeff Gordon, of Dickson, Tenn.; great-nieces, Katie Gordon, Beth Eichelberger and her husband Brice and their son, Elijah Wayne Eichelberger; and Sarah Gordon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Riley; a brother, Frank May; and her parents.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 19 at Boyd Funeral Directors in Salem with Rev. Russell Joiner officiating. Burial was at Hampton Cemetery.

Shaffer
Mary June Shaffer, 83, of Nortonville, formerly of Princeton, died Dec. 18, 2009 at her home.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Princeton and was a former secretary at the Crittenden County Clerk's Office.
Surviving are a son, John Shaffer of Nortonville; two sisters, Dorothy Foster of Salem and Norma “Penny” Rice of Hamilton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles P. Shaffer; a daughter, Cathy Shaffer; a sister, Lois Bruce; and two brothers, Wayne Fletcher and Odell Fletcher. Her parents were Claud and Vada Jean Oliver Fletcher.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 22 at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. Tom Hughes officiating. Burial was at Mapleview Cemetery in Marion.

Lanham
Shelby Ray Lanham, 90, of Marion died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009 at Crittenden County Health and Rehab. He was a member of Union Baptist Church and a retired coal miner.
Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Lanham of St. Claire, Mo., and James Lanham of Kevil; 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Christine Lanham; a son, Eugene Lanham; parents, Coy and Willie Myrtle Martin Lanham; and three brothers.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 19 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion. Burial will be at Love Cemetery.

Stallion
Rebecca G. Stallion, 74, of Marion, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009 at Livingston Hospital and Healthcare Services.
She was a member of Freedom General Baptist Church in Marion.
Survivors include her husband, William C. “Bill” Stallion of Marion; son, Steven Wesley Stallion of Marion; a brother, Harold Gilland of Rosiclare, Ill.; sisters, Pat Wiggins of Burna; Doris Dameron of Marion and Lois Millikan of Rosiclare, Ill.; two grandchildren, Rebecca Jo Arlington and husband Allen of Rosiclare, Ill., Jessica Stallion and fiancé Lance Lynn of Marion; daughter-in-law Valerie Stallion Roberson of Marion; great-grandsons, Trevor James and Mason David Arlington; and several nieces and nephews.
Stallion was preceded in death by a son, William Gregory Stallion; her parents, Coy and Mary Davidson Gilland; and brothers Billy Joe Gilland and Jim Gilland.

Hearell
Claud Edward Hearell, 83, of Marion, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009 at Salem Springlake Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He attended Pleasant Grove General Baptist Church and was a long-time member of Liberty Grove Christian Church.
Hearell is survived by two sons, Roger Hearell and wife Debbie of Marion and Eddie Hearell, also of Marion; brothers, William Hearell Jr., Carl Hearell and Ollie D. Hearell; and a grandson, David Hearell of Ledbetter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel Dean Hearell; and a brother, Rudell Hearell. His parents were William and Eatheral Boggus Hearell.
Funeral services were Sunday, Dec. 13 at Boyd Funeral Directors in Salem with Rev. Herbert Alexander officiating. Burial was at White’s Chapel Cemetery.

Moore
Paul Collins Moore, 70, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009 at Livingston Hospital.
He was born to Ray and Bessie Moore at Joy on Oct. 26, 1939. Moore was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Hopper Moore on Sept. 21, 2009, and his parents, Ray and Bessie Moore of Carrsville, Ky.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Ray Moore of Paducah and Cody Allan Moore of Salem; three granddaughters, Amanda Moore of Paducah, Traci and Corie Moore of Salem, with whom he made his home in Salem; three brothers, Carl Moore and wife Jean of Anna, Ill., Larry Moore of Salem, and Gary Moore and wife Frankie of Marion; sisters, Catherine Myres and husband Merlin of Gardendale, Ala., Margaret Grimmett and husband Sherman of Man, W. Va., and Ann Orrick of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 15 at Boyd Funeral Directors in Salem with Rev. Roger Moore and Harold Rittenberry officiating. Burial was at Salem Cemetery.

Alexander
Maxine Lowry Alexander, 82, of Paducah, formerly of Metropolis, Ill., died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009 at the Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
She was born May 11, 1927 in Crittenden County to Harvey and Maude McConnell Lowry. She was a graduate of Paducah Junior College, a member of First Presbyterian Church of Paducah, prayer reading club, a reader for the blind, hospice volunteer and loved nature and animals, especially cats.
Alexander retired after many years from the office of Drs. Grogan and Howard.
Survivors include a son, Marc Alexander of Paducah; a sister, Linda Lowry Kuhner and husband Dr. Ben Kuhner of Bremerton, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Clifton Lowry; and sister, Evelyn Lowry Brown.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009 at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Lynn Shurley officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m., until service time on Sunday at the funeral home.

Wilson
James Ernest “Jim” Wilson, 64, of Reidland, died Friday, Dec. 11 in Benton, Ky.
He was a member of Pathway Baptist Church in Calvert City and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include a daughter, Shannon Rushing of Burna; sons, Brandon Wilson of Paducah and Jordan Wilson of Louisville; sister, Wanda King of Gainesboro, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Jessie Rushing of Burna, Emma Rushing of Burna and Jackson Smith of Florida.
Wilson was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest C. and Helen Lorene Bebout Wilson.
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 14 at Boyd Funeral Directors in Salem with Rev. Jerry Thurman officiating. Burial was at Old Salem Cemetery.

Roy
Robert Mathew Roy, 38, formerly of Marion, died Dec. 5, 2009 in Kingsland, Ga.
Survivors include his wife, Ashley Harper Roy, formerly of Marshall County; two sons, Robert Nicholas Roy of Mayfield and Aiden Mathew Roy; his mother, Linda Story Roy of Marion; a sister, Amy McDonald; and a niece and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Oren and Vada Story.
Filbeck-Cann and King Funeral Home in Benton was in charge of arrangements. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 17 at Fooks Cemetery in Marshall County.

Woodall, 101
Margie Gold Woodall, 101, of Henderson, formerly of Providence, died Dec. 14, 2009 at Redbanks Nursing Home in Henderson.
She was a 49-year member of the Shady Grove #505 Order of Eastern Star, and was voted queen of Redbanks Nursing Home on her 100th birthday.
Surviving are a daughter, Joyce McConnell of Henderson; two sons, Harold Woodall and Hobart Woodall, both of Henderson; five grandchildren, Wendy Vidas, Trent McConnell, Jonathan Woodall, Kent McConnell and Mark McConnell; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R.J. Woodall; and son, Ronnie D. Woodall.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 17 at Melton Funeral Home in Providence with Bro. Mike Morris officiating. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday and until the funeral hour Thursday. Burial will be at Shady Grove Cemetery.

Milton
Rev. Wm. Floyd Milton, a former Paducah pastor, died Saturday, Dec. 12 at Crittenden Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born June 25, 1911 in Dover, Tenn., the son of Jesse and Callie Folks Milton.
He spent many years in pastoral and evangelistic ministry serving churches in Kansas, Indiana, Tennessee and Illinois.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Eulah Cook Milton.
Surviving are two daughters, Velva Belt of Granite City, Ill., and Sharon Belt of Marion; three grandchildren, Sharie Frazer of Marion, Boyce Belt of Granite City, Ill., and LaVonna Ennis of Springfield, Mo.; and eight great-grandchildren, Tucker and Regan Frazer of Marion, Elizabeth, Adrianne and Lee Belt of Granite City, Ill., and Jordan, Johnathan, and JoHanna Ennis of Springfield, Mo.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 17 at Lola Pentecostal Church with the Pastor Tim Fouts officiating. Burial will follow at Lola Pentecostal Church Cemetery.

Sedberry
Jackie Sedberry, 53, of Cadiz, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 at his home.
Surviving are his wife, Shelah Sedberry of Cadiz; a son, John Lucas Sedberry of Cadiz; four daughters, Melissa, Kimberly, Stacey and Jennifer, all of Cadiz; four sisters, Linda Laster and Genia Wagner, both of Cadiz, Dee Dee Berrios of Miami and Lois Brown of Springfield, Tenn.; and one grandchild, Kamerah Cavanaugh.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John L. “Jack” and Maggie Pearl Agent Sedberry; and a sister, Betty May Garland.
Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 4 at Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz. Rev. Lester Watson officiated. Burial was at Robertson-Hite Cemetery in Trigg County.

Damien Riley Crain, 4½, of Salem, died, Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009.
He was a pre-school student in Mrs. Stacey Hardin’s class at Crittenden County Elementary School.
Survivors include his mother, Andrea Crain of Salem; his father, Brent Curnel of Salem; his maternal grandparents, Susan Crain of Mayfield and Randy Crain of Paducah; his paternal grandparents, Paul Curnel of Salem and Catherine Curnel of Joy; two aunts, Bethany Crain of Morristown, N.J. and Sue Curnel of Salem; and two uncles, Bradley Curnel and Jay Curnel, both of Smithland.
Funeral services were Tuesday at the chapel of Boyd Funeral Directors in Salem with the Rev. Roger Holloman officiating. Burial was at Goodhope Cemetery.

Cosby
Thelma Louise Woods Stewart Cosby, 90, of Burna, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009 at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.
She was a member of Burna Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, James Hubert Cosby of Burna; daughters, Helen Ray of Smithland, Shirley Pipes of Call, Texas, Martha Wallace of Paducah, Earlene Rice of Princeton, Brenda Joyce of Paducah and Connie Chittenden of Burna; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Cosby was preceded in death by a daughter, Lourina Stewart; a son, James Allen Cosby; four sisters; and two grandchildren.
She was the daughter of Elzie and Margaret Isabell Jamison Woods.
Funeral services were Sunday, Dec. 6 at Boyd Funeral Directors in Salem with Bro. John Taylor and Bro. Mike Grimes officiating. Burial was at McMurray Chapel Cemetery.

Nichols
Robert Ray Nichols, 74, of Marion died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009 at his home.
He was a member of Caldwell Springs General Baptist Church, Past Master of Frances Masonic Lodge No. 580, member of Parkerville (Ky.) Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Hadi Shrine and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 1 in Mt. Vernon, Ind. He was also a U.S. Army veteran and a Kentucky Colonel.
Surviving are his wife, Sarah Nichols of Marion; children, Brian Keith Nichols of New Harmony, Ind., Eric Nichols of Evansville, Ind., and Lisa Burk of Yakama, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Anne Nichols; parents, Bethel Lou and Cora Hawkins Nichols; a brother; and two sisters.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 8 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion. Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Hackney
Lula “Jimi” Hackney, 69, of Marion died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 at Crittenden Hospital.
She was a school bus driver for 19 years for the Crittenden County School System.
Survivors include her husband, J.D. Hackney of Marion; children, Danny Hodge of Evansville, Ind., Johnny Hackney of Marion, James Hackney of Marion, Kathy Fox of Richmond, Ky., Pam Todd of Marion, Linda Campbell of Rineyville, Ky., and Julie Crowdus of Morganfield; sisters, Mary Helen Millikan of Lola and Lou Belt of Kentucky; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Lula Kimsey Belt; a brother, Charles L. Belt; and a sister, Luiza Belt.
Funeral services were Saturday at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion. Burial was at Whites Chapel Cemetery.

Williams
David "Tiny" Williams, 69, of Marion died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009 at Crittenden Hospital.
He was a member of Freedom General Baptist Church.
Survivors include his children, Charlie Williams of Eddyville and Mary Lou and Tommy Williams, both of Marion; brother, Doug Williams of Marion; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two children, Jimmy and Billy Wayne Williams; parents, Claude R. Williams Sr., and Mary Ann Wheatcroft; and three brothers.
Funeral services were Sunday, Nov. 29 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion. Burial was at Freedom Cemetery.

Rodgers
Ruth Hard Rodgers, 94, of Princeton, died Nov. 29, 2009 at Rivers Bend Retirement Community.
She was a homemaker and was the oldest member of First Baptist Church of Fredonia where she taught Sunday school for many years before moving to Princeton in 1985.
Surviving are two daughters, Nita Rogers Thompson of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Rita Rogers Oldham of Princeton; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Franklin Rogers; a son, Eugene Franklin Rogers Jr.; a brother, William Duke Hard; and two sisters, Sallie Irene Hard Dillon and Mary Augusta Hard Cranor.
Her parents were William Roland and Nellie Coleman Smith Hard.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 3 at Morgan's Funeral Home with Dr. Jerrell White officiating, assisted by Dr. Gary Frizzell. Burial will be at Fredonia Cemetery.

Cubley
Catherine Cubley, 60, of Harrisburg, Ill., died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009 at Saline Care Center.
She was born on April 22, 1949 to the late Grady and Cleta Clark Hodge in Salem, Ky.
Cubley was a member of the Mighty Harvest Church of Shawneetown, Ill., and was an ordained minister.
Survivors include one son, Robert Cubley of Dalgren, Ill., a grand daughter, Maddlyn Cubley; two brothers, Charles Hodge and wife Colleen of St. Louis, Mo., and Larry Hodge of Salem; a sister, Carol Jackson of Salem,; and a significant other, John Dixon of Harrisburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son in infancy, William Cubley Jr.; and two brothers, Billy Hodge and Keith Hodge.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 5 at the community room at Blackman Highrise with Rev. Bob Powell officiating.

Deborah Renee Decker Hamby, 57, of Greer, S.C. died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009.
Survivors include two children, John Hamby of Knoxville, Tenn., and Laura Hamby of Greer, S.C.; two brothers, Neil Decker of Marion and Dale Decker and wife, Darla of Greensburg, Ky. ; and a sister, Erin Tyler of White Bluff, Tenn.
A memorial will be held Saturday, Nov. 28 at Marion Second Baptist Church. Visitation will start at 1 p.m., and the memorial service will start at 2 p.m.

James Carl “Jay” Bigham, 36, of Santa Fe, N.M., died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009.
A graveside service was held Wednesday, Nov. 11 at the Calvary Cemetery in Portage, Ind.
Survivors include his wife, Jennifer; daughters, Traci, Deann and Riley of Santa Fe, N.M., and Cheyenne of Portage, Ind.; his mother, Geraldine Dean Neighbors of Boonville, Ind., formerly of Marion; a brother, Tony and wife Charlene Bigham of Waldorf, Md.; a sister Traci Waynette Bigham of Boonville, Ind.; two aunts, Rebecca Conger and Detra Campbell of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
Bigham was preceded in death by his father, Leon Bigham; and a brother, Doug Bigham.

McElmurry
Curtis Ray McElmurry, 72, of Burna died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009 at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.

Janice Faye Newcom, 60, of Marion died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
She was a member of Marion Church of Christ.

LaRue
Georgia Dean LaRue, 77, of Salem died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009 at Salem Springlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salem.
She was a member of Salem Baptist Church.
LaRue retired after 22 years as administrative assistant for the Soil Conservation Service in Smithland. She served as acting Master Commissioner for Livingston County and also worked for the Livingston County sheriff and judge’s offices.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Dan C. LaRue of Salem; a daughter, Danna LaRue Simpkins and husband Don of Mayfield; one sister, Euleen Baxter of Salem; two grandsons, Jonathan Simpkins and wife Nikki and Brent Simpkins of Mayfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eulen and Gladys Peck Ramage of Burna; a sister, Jo Anne Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and a brother, Rayford Ramage of Burna.

Mary Kathryn "Buddy" Sleamaker, 95, died Oct. 2, 2009 at St. Anthony's Hospice in St. Louis, Mo.
She was a member of Marion Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Thomas F. Sleamaker of Louisville; a daughter, Kathryn Ann Faught and husband Norman of St. Louis; three grandchildren, Dr. Clayton R. Bratton and wife Roxanne of Biloxi, Miss., Meredith A. Sleamaker and Erika S. Taylor and husband David, both of Louisville; and five great-grandchildren.
Sleamaker was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lelia Hodges; a brother, Harry L. Hodges; and her husband, Dr. Thomas W. Sleamaker.

Betty Smith, 49, of Marion died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at Crittenden Hospital.

Jesse J. Hunter, 75 of Salem died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 at his daughter’s home in Nashville, Tenn.
He was a member of Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as elder for several years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a member of the United Mine Workers Association.
Survivors include his wife of 511⁄2 years Christine Hunter of Salem; two daughters, Shawnee and husband Steve Pace of Salem and Jodi and husband Michael Nix of Nashville, Tenn.; a son, Buddy Hunter of Salem; five sisters, Agnes Duncan of Salem, Nerva Loveless of Smithland, Louise Cox of Marion, Barbara Henry of South Bend, Ind., and Shirlee Bohaczyk of Pennsylvania; three brothers, Danny Hunter and Toby Hunter, both of Salem and Bobby Hunter of Tiline; three grandchildren Sean and wife Tiffany Pace of Reidland, Sabrina Pace of Nashville, Tenn., and Stephanie and husband David Koon of Grand Rivers; four great-grandchildren, Tristin Arflack, Emilee Arflack, Dathan Terrell and Kaydence McCormick.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Hunter; his mother Clara Adams Hunter; his fathers, Oliver Brannam and Buel Hunter; three brothers; and one sister.

Briley
Robert W. Briley, 89, of Wilmington, Ohio died at 12:45 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009 at Wilmington Nursing & Rehabilitation Residence.
His wife, Louise E. Stethem Briley, preceded him in death May 12, 2005. They were married Feb. 25, 1942. Briley was born Sept. 28, 1920 in Quincy, Ohio, son of the late Ralph and Nola Airy Briley. He was a graduate of Xenia High School and was a decorated Air Force veteran of World War II. He flew numerous missions over Italy, and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.
Briley retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base where he worked as an electrical technician. He was a longtime, active member of St. Brigid Catholic Church in Xenia. Recently, he had been a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Wilmington. Over the course of his life, Briley had served as the St. Brigid High School boys’ basketball coach, a Boy Scout leader and as president of the Englewood, Fla., Lion’s Club. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include a son, Robert L. and wife Joy Briley of Marion; a daughter, Denise B. and husband Daniel Dehan of Wilmington, Ohio; three grandchildren, Dr. Kelly Briley, Brian and wife Amy Dehan, and Sean Dehan; a step-grandson, Stephen Smalley; four great-grandchildren, Tyler Dehan, Logan Dehan, Audrey Dehan and Caitlyn Dehan; two step-great grandchildren, Freddie Smalley and Jack Smalley; a brother, Larry; a sister, Shirley; his dear friends, Donald & Betty Adams; and numerous friends at Cape May Retirement Village. In addition to his wife and parents, an infant daughter, Rita Briley, and two brothers, Dude and Kenneth, preceded him in death.

Faye Bradley, 86, of Salem, died Nov. 14, 2009 at Livingston Hospital and Healthcare Services.
She was a member of Marion Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the Methodist Hospital Auxiliary in Merryville, Ind. and a 38-year member of Central Baptist Church in Hobart, Ind., where she was a Sunday school teacher for 21 years.
Bradley is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harry C. Simpson
The Honorable Judge Thomas E. Simpson died on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009 following a battle against cancer.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Judy Jolly Simpson; two daughters, Chrysanne Simpson Moser and husband Scott of Louisville and Amy E. Simpson of Bardstown; a son, Matthew Thomas Simpson of Cincinnati, Ohio; two granddaughters, Meredith and Kathleen Moser of Louisville; four siblings, Mary Virginia Simpson of Henderson, Alice Simpson-Lovan of Bowling Green, Laura Elizabeth Stefka of Louisville and William Faust Simpson of Louisville; three nieces; three nephews; his mother-in-law, Rosemary Jolly, of Henderson and brother- and sister-in-law, Charles and Dwan Ruppe of Wilmington, N.C.
Preceding Judge Simpson in death were his parents, the Honorable Judge Faust Y. Simpson and Mary Mills Simpson, father-in-law, Fred D. Jolly Jr., and several aunts and uncles.
A lifelong resident of Union County, Judge Simpson was born in Sturgis on Jan. 28, 1949. His childhood years were spent first in Sturgis then in Morganfield, where he was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. He attended St. Ann’s School and was a member of the last graduating class of the old St.Vincent’s Academy.
Recently, Judge Simpson and his wife joined the faith community of St. Agnes Catholic Church, where he served as a youth religious education teacher.
Judge Simpson received his undergraduate education at Western Kentucky University where he was a member of the Eta Rho chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity.
Following stints as both an elementary school teacher and a parole officer, he entered the Louis Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville in 1974. After graduating in 1977, the Judge began his legal career with his father and J. Quentin Wesley at the firm of Wesley & Simpson, later becoming Wesley, Simpson & Hooks. They opened the Law Office of Simpson & Simpson in 1992.
He has served the local community in private practice, as Union County public defender and as assistant commonwealth attorney over a span of 25 years. Appointed to the District Court bench in 2004, Judge Simpson has continued to execute the law in Union, Crittenden and Webster counties.
An avid sportsman, Judge Simpson enjoyed hunting local game and fishing with friends. He has supported many local charities over the years, namely the Morganfield Lions Club, which he served as Corn Festival Parade co-chairman.
Judge Simpson’s Funeral Mass was conducted by Father Terry Divine on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at St. Agnes Church in Uniontown. Burial was at St. Ann Cemetery in Morganfield.

Todd
Jimmy Deon Todd, 64 of Marion died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at his residence.
He was employed as a core driller and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Todd of Marion; daughters, Christina Young of Salem, and Regina Kirk of Calvert City; a brother, Kenneth Todd of Tolu; and three sisters, Naoma Tinsley and Donna Perryman, both of Tolu; and Carolyn Byford, of Marion; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Eldo and Bertha “Cookie” Clark Todd; and one brother.

Little
Alma Dimple Little, 94, of Madisonville, formerly of Marion, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009 at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home in Madisonville. She had previously resided with her daughter, Betty Little Wilhite in Madisonville.
Born Oct. 30, 1915 in Lola to the late Acy Miles Watson and Myrtle Hardesty Watson, Little was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ercel Bois Little. Her brothers, Fort W. Watson, Strother Watson, Harold Watson and sister Gladys Watson Davidson also preceded her in death.
From 1960-1966, Little was school secretary for Crittenden County High School where her husband was principal. From 1966-77, she was bookkeeper for Big K of Madisonville when she retired. After retiring, she volunteered at the Madisonville Christian Food Bank. Little enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting and for the last 20 years took great pleasure playing cards with her friends at the Senior Citizen Center.
As a member of Madisonville First Baptist Church from 1966 to the present, she was active in her Sunday School class and Young at Heart. Little had a strong Christian faith and led by example.
Little is survived by her daughter, Betty Little Wilhite of Madisonville; son, Dwight Little and his wife Kay of Madisonville; granddaughter, Laura Wilhite Doyle and her husband Dean of Nolensville, Tenn.; grandson, Doug Wilhite and his wife Ronda of Frankfort; grandson, Bryan Little and his wife Karen of Louisville; grandson, Mike Wilhite and his wife Dawn of Mt. Ulla, N.C.; grandson, David Wilhite of Nashville, Tenn.; great-granddaughters, Hannah Wilhite and Kaleigh Wilhite of Mt. Ulla, N.C.; great-grandsons, Gabriel Doyle and Ezekiel Doyle of Nolensville, Tenn.; and great-grandson, Carl Wilhite of Frankfort.

Evalyn Ruth Thomas, 87, of Morganfield died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 at her home. She was the former owner of Shaker Burger restaurant in Waverly. She was a Pigeon Township Trustee Investigator.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia DiMatteo and husband Joseph of Newburgh, Ind., and Kathisu Jordan of Jasper, Ind.; two sons, Gordon Thomas and wife Dixie of Booneville, Ind., and Mark Thomas of Jasper; a sister, Mabel Barron of Henderson; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ancil and Naomi Ruth Peck Harris; her husband Max Leon Thomas; and a son, Ron Thomas.

Gwendolyn Matthews, 89, of Marion, died Monday at Crittenden Hospital. She was a member of Marion Baptist Church and was retired from Tucker’s Interiors in Marion.

Parsons
John Edward Parsons Sr., 87, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 at his home in Lafayette, La.
Funeral services were Oct. 29 at LaChapelle de Martin and Castille Funeral Home. Rev. Ira Robinson officiated. Graveside services were Oct. 31 in Mapleview Cemetery in Marion. Gilbert Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
Parsons was born in Graham, Texas to George E. Parsons and Nettie Mae Sloan Parsons. He graduated from Graham High School in 1939 and went to the University of Texas at Austin. During World War II, he worked for Consolidated Volter Aircraft as a liaison engineer building B-24 bombers. He began working for Stanolind Oil (now Amoco) in 1944 as a cost observer of field operations.
He married Marie Ogden in 1944 and had a son, James Ogden. He worked on a seismic crew for Conoco and in 1946 was a pioneer in offshore exploration in Grand Isle, La., in Lake Charles, La., and Aransas Pass. In 1950, he was moved into the regional office in Houston, where he served as the division geophysicist for the Houston division. He transferred to Shreveport, La., in 1960 as division geophysicist and that same year married Doris Palmer and had a son, John E. Parsons, Jr. He worked the remainder of his employment with Conoco in Lafayette, La., until retirement May 1, 1983.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Johnson Parsons; two sons, James O. Parsons and wife Carolyn of Dayton, Texas, and John E. Parsons, Jr., and his wife Lynn of Joplin, Mo.; two grandsons; and two half-sisters, Kay Gallagos of Graham, Texas and Martha Thetford of Flower Mound, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George E. and Nettie Mae Sloan Parsons; and two half-brothers, George Edwin Parsons Jr., and Paschall Parsons.

Mary Francis Franks, 93, of Marion, died Oct. 19, 2009 at Crittenden Hospital.
She was a member of Union Baptist Church.

Brenda Kay Blanchard, 61, of Shady Grove died Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 at Princeton Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Polly Gobin.

Ruby Pierson, 90, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 at Methodist Hospital in Union County. He was a retired farmer.

Mark Wayne Pierson, 53, of Mattoon died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009 at his home.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Pierson.

Jean Harris Johnson, 89, of Luray, Va., died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009. She was born in Marion.
Johnson was a member of Valley Artist Guild.
A daughter, Judy Carol Johnson of Luray, Va., survives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Douglas Johnson; and her parents, Tracey Harris and Mary Lou Cheatham Harris.

Mike Bruce, 59, of Griffin, Ind., died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 at Caldwell County Hospital. He was a retired steelworker at Ryerson Tull Steel. He was born in Crittenden County, was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of Izzack Walton League of America.

Dr. Rajendra V. Bharne, 67, of Marion, died September 20, 2009 at Crittenden Health Systems.
Dr. Bharne was a self-employed physician for 33 years.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Sheela Bharne; son, Kevin Bharne; daughter, Mithila Cowan; one sister; and three brothers.
Dr. Bharne was preceded in death by his parents, Vinayak and Muctabai Bharne.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8 at Boyd Funeral Directors in Salem.

Donald Paul Tabor, 81, of St. Louis, Mo., died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009 in St. Louis.
He was a native of Crittenden County and retired from the Chrysler Corporation, and had served in the U.S. military.
Survivors include three sons, Paul and Brad Tabor and Dannie Holbrook, all of St. Louis; two daughters, Shelia Sanders, and Patricia Eisel of St. Louis; two sisters, Ada Lou Hughes and Nadine Tabor, both of Princeton; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Addie Carlton Tabor; and wives Jean and Linda Tabor.

Wendell Conkle, 60, of Elizabethtown, Ill., died Thursday, Oct. 15 at Hardin County General Hospital in southern Illinois.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth “Libby” Conkle; a daughter, DeeAnn Conkle; a son, Wendell Conkle Jr.; a sister, Nellie Miles; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Conkle was preceded in death by his parents, Opal and Sam Conkle; three brothers, Otis Conkle, Everett Conkle and Robert Conkle; and a sister, Lucille Conkle.
He had been a member of the Elizabethtown Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

Bonnie S. Hansen, 46, of Salem, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009 at her home.
She was a member of Lola Pentecostal Church.

Gary E. Avery, 51, of Marion, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009 at his home. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

James Ross McDowell, 50, of Fredonia died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009.

She was a member of Salem Baptist Church and American Legion Post 217 in Burna.

Stella Mae Riley, 91, of Guilford, Ind., died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009 at her home.
She was born in Kentucky, the daughter of Charles and Ruby Armstrong Belt.

Mildred Ellen Ramer, 95, of the Bayou community in Livingston County died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 at her home.
Before retiring, she was a school teacher for 40 years. Ramer was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and McMurray Chapel United Methodist Church.

Rushing was a farmer and member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church and Fredonia Young Farmers. Merle E. Fox, 92, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio and formerly of rural Nevada, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009 at the Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky.
His parents were Andrew and Ida Henige Fox.
Survivors include a son, Charles and wife Alberta Fox of Salem; a daughter, Carol Ann and husband Giles Fox Logsdon of Upper Sandusky; two sisters; eight grandchildren, including Jeffrey Fox and Andrew Fox, both of Salem; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Fox was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Marie Fadley Fox; his parents; and a brother, Russell Fox.
A lifelong resident of Wyandot County, he was a second generation farmer. He was a former member of the St. Pius Catholic Church before transferring to Transfiguration of the Lord in Upper Sandusky. He was a member of the American Legion, a former trustee of BPOE 83 for 37 years, lifetime member of the K of C and an Eden Township Trustee for 28 years.
A Mass of Christian burial is Thursday, Sept. 17 at the Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. The Rev. Robert Dendinger and Rev. Mary Curtis will officiate. Burial is at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Upper Sandusky.

Joey McDowell, 35, originally of Marion died Monday, Aug. 31, 2009 at the Swedish Medical Center in Denver, Colo.
Survivors include two sons, Colten Owen and Coy J. McDowell, both of Sturgis; his mother, Zelda Wharton; father, Mike McDowell; a brother, Shane of Florida; and a sister, Amanda Little of Marion.
He was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Pearl and Wilson Wharton, and Cleo and Alma Louise McDowell; and his great-grandparents, Alma Lorene and Gordon Escue.
Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 5 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion. Burial was at Crowell Cemetery.

Kimberlin
Wilma V. Kimberlin, 89, of Burna died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009 at Crittenden County Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was a member of McMurray Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three great-nephews, Gary Hughes of Eddyville, and David Hughes and Charles Hughes, both of Paducah; and one great-niece, Brenda Davenport of Paducah.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Kimberlin; a sister and two brothers. Kimberlin was the daughter of Willard and Sue Walker.

Sybil E. Wesmoland, 86, of Marion died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009 at her home.
She was a member of Barnett Chapel General Baptist Church and the Crittenden Hospital Auxillary.
Survivors include her son, George Wesmoland of Marion; grandchildren, Shaun, Joel and John Wesmoland and Allison Madding; great-grandchildren, Addison Wesmoland and Nathan Madding; and an aunt, Pearl Lindsey of Cadiz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Wesmoland; son, Danny Wesmoland; and a sister.

Annie Coozette Leidecker, 66, of Salem died at 4:28 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009 at Livingston Hospital.
Leidecker was a member of Southland Baptist Temple in Paducah and was a dietary manager at the Ledbetter Elementary School.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Donnie E. Marlene Brantley, 78, of Marion died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009 at Livingston Hospital in Salem. She was of the Baptist faith.

Paul Edward Porter, 85, of Murray, Ky., died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009 at Provena Mercy Center in Aurora, Ill.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Johnny Lee Terry Sr., 72, of Henderson, Ky., died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at his home.
He was a construction worker.

Ava Ruth Belt, 93, of Marion, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009 at Crittenden Hospital.
She was a homemaker and a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.

Montgomery Vincent Tarter, 74, of Marion died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009 at Crittenden Hospital.
He was a surveyor and U.S. Army veteran.

Murray
Lillian Murray, 94, of Newburgh, Ind., died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009 at Deaconess Hospice Care Center.
Murray started her career as a secretary for Merchant Truck Lines in Evansville. She also worked at Providence Plastics in Providence. Her career extended to Fannie May Candies where she worked as a retail clerk until she retired at the age of 76. She loved to sew, quilt and knit. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school for 35 years at Shady Grove Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Charles Riley of Newburgh; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Paula Murray of Wadesville, Ind.; a brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Dare Waide of Shady Grove, Ky.; three grandchildren, Jeff Riley, Michelle Brady and Paul Murray; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Ellis Murray; her parents, J.W. and Rushie Andrews Waide; and an infant sister, Gladys.

Bernadine Orr, 92, of Marion died, Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009.
Survivors include two sons, Billy Glenn and wife Brenda Orr of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Richard Lee and wife Jeanie Orr of Franklin, Ky.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Proceeding her in death were her husband of 37 years, Leslie Orr; her parents W.B. “Burke” and Lola Hughes Turley; a brother, Denzil Turley; two sisters, Iva May Turley and Edith Daley; a step-daughter, Wilda Orr Martin; a step-granddaughter, Diane Martin; step-father, Everett Quertermous; a step-sister; and a step-brother.

William “Jerry” Watson, 58, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009 in Florida.
Survivors include his sons, Joseph Taylor and William Watson Jr.; daughters, Stacey Lewis and Lisa Dempsey; two brothers, James and Ronnie Dale Watson; a sister Shirley Kirk; four grandchildren Tray, Jaycee, Dayton and Nicole; and several nieces and nephews.

Pauline Mahan Wigginton, 86, formerly of Marion, died Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Gracey Woods Nursing Home in Austin, Texas.
Born Dec. 22, 1922 in Marion, she was a longtime member of the Crestview Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, MSgt. Joseph K. Wigginton and her parents, Claude and Clara Belt Mahan.
Survivors include her son, Larry J. Wigginton of Round Rock, Texas; grandchildren, Jim of Austin, Texas and Clare of College Station, Texas; twin brother Paul Mahan and wife Mildred of Sheridan, Mich.; and a brother Mark Mahan and wife Martha of Columbus, Ohio; and nieces and nephews.

George Rogers, 91, of Eddyville died at 7:45 a.m., Friday, July 31, 2009 at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.
Rogers was a self-employed farmer and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Lyon County.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Helen Oliver Rogers; one daughter, Connie White of Eddyville; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Carlos Leroy Rogers; two brothers, Judge Rogers and Gene Rogers; one sister, Grace LaRue; and his parents, Frank Rogers and Rene Stephenson Rogers.

Arnett
Charlie Arnett, 95, died at 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 29 at his home in Coldwater, Ky.
He was born Sept. 14, 1913 in the Brown’s Grove community. He graduated from Lynn Grove High School in 1934. While in high school, he met Ruby Herndon of Hazel, whom he married on Dec. 12, 1934. Arnett attended Freed-Hardeman College from 1938-1940.
Arnett was a Church of Christ minister for 77 years, preaching his first sermon in Kirksey, Ky., in September 1932 and his last sermon in Hazel, Ky., in March 2009. Just prior to his death, he had been serving as minister for the Hatler’s Chapel Church of Christ in Dresden, Tenn.
He served churches in Kentucky, Illinois, Tennessee and North Carolina during his years of ministry, and preached in at least 14 different states.
Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Ruby Herndon Arnett; two daughters, Freeda Holladay and husband, Olian of Kannapolis N.C., and Patsy Watson and husband Lorin of Abilene, Texas; four sons, Richard Arnett and wife, Joan of Murray; Paul Arnett and wife Debra of Lancaster Ohio; Harold Arnett and wife, Randa of St. Joseph, Mo., and John Arnett and wife, Frieda of Franklin, Ky.; a sister, Betty Dixon of Kirksey; a brother, Albert Bazzell Jr., of Murray; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Rueben; his father, Cletus Arnett, mother, Ophelia Duncan Arnett Bazzell; step-father, Albert Bazzell; brother, Robert Lee Bazzell; and sisters, Jenny Perich and Mary Kirkland.

Postletheweight
Charles C. Postletheweight, 94, of Evansville, Ind., died Friday, July 31, 2009 at River Pointe Health Campus.
Postletheweight was born in Crittenden County Feb. 2, 1915 to Charles Albert and Mary Ann Cook Postletheweight. He graduated from Marion High School and attended Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. He went to Evansville in 1936, served a voluntary tour in the U.S. Army Air Force, and was drafted into the U.S. Air Force in 1943, serving as an airplane and engine mechanic on B-24s.
Upon his return to civilian life in 1946, he started an automotive repair garage and became the area’s most skilled automatic transmission repairman. He owned and operated Postletheweight Auto Clinic for many years and even taught several blind men to become licensed mechanics. He taught Automatic Transmission Repair in the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corp., and at Ivy Tech for many years.
In 1969, he accepted a teaching assignment with the United Nations International Labor Organization. This International team was assigned to set up vocational education colleges in Tanzania East Africa and Indonesia on the Island of Java. Upon his return to Evansville in 1976, he continued teaching part- time in the Vanderburgh School Corp., and Ivy Tech. In 1989, he retired from teaching and devoted full time to restoring a 1915 Packard he had purchased in 1953. This Packard had been custom built for General of the Armies John J. “Black Jack” Pershing. This was an on and off 40-year restoration project which began seriously in 1987 until he finished in 1994. He and his sons enjoyed showing it at many national and local events. In his spare time, he was known to do a little fishing.
Postletheweight was married to Eleonora Taylor Postletheweight for 60 years before her death in 2001. He was preceded in death by his son John in 1995.
He was a life charter member of the Olde Tyme Auto Club since 1953,
East Side Optimist member, A Former International Civil Servant (AFICS) for the UNDP-ILO, a Kentucky Colonel, Dale Carnegie Alumni, member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, The Horseless Carriage of America Club and The Studebaker Club. Postletheweight was a former member of the Independent Garage Owners, Moose, Eagles, and Goodwill Auxiliary.
He was a charter member of Holy Rosary Parish, a former member of the Men’s club, Senior Citizens club and was a church usher for 40 years.
Surviving are sons, Charles T. and wife Karen of Chandler, George and wife Betty of Mt. Vernon, Ind., and David of Evansville; grandchildren, Eric and wife Kerri, Gary and wife Krista, Julie and Terry Postletheweight; great-grandchildren, Michael Wilson, Sydne, Mason, Nick, Logan, Megan and Austin Postletheweight; and sister, Marian Hutchinson of Newburgh, Ind.
Visitation was Sunday, Aug. 2 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel in Evansville. The funeral was Monday, Aug. 3 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Bernie Etienne officiating. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Linda Mary Holsapple, 65, of Marion died Thursday, July 30, 2009. She was co-owner and operator of S&J Barbecue in Marion and a member of the Marion Woman’s Club.
She was a registered nurse for 45 years and a member of Marion Baptist Church.

Curry
Lal M. Curry, 90, died at 2:50 p.m., Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Salem Springlake Care Center.
He was a life-long, and second oldest, member of Hampton Methodist Church and a member of the American Legion Post 217, having served in the last horse cavalry unit in America. Curry, a veteran of World War II, was a Kentucky Colonel and worked in the 1950s and 1960s for the state highway department. He retired from blacksmithing in the late 1960s. The last 20 years of his life he collected and repaired primitive tools and resold them mostly to the Amish.
Curry worked to gather over 300 signatures petitioning to save the name Livingston Central High School when the newer high school was built in the mid-1980s.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Gertrude Welchel Curry, a daughter Patricia Peck and husband Rell Peck; a son, John Wayne Curry; grandsons Christopher Curry and fiancé Julie Owens of Indianapolis, Ind., and Drew Hastings of Reidland, Ky.; granddaughter Lissa and husband Brad Byers of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and five great-grandchildren, Harmony, Melody and Joy Byers of Port St. Lucie and Tyler and Taylor Hastings of Reidland; among many nieces, nephews and cousins are Carol Nagers of Alexandria, Va., Andy Groves of Sacramento, Ky., and John Scarbrough of Burna.

Martin
Steve Martin, 44, of Madisonville, died Sunday, July 19, 2009 in Goodyear, Ariz., after a lengthy illness.
He was born Aug. 13, 1964 in Sturgis to the late Gerald Anthony Martin and Linda Coleman Welborn of Madisonville.
Survivors include his mother; one daughter, Bethany Webb of Madisonville; two sons, Evan Anthony Martin and Cameron Lance Martin, both of Lebanon, Ky.; a sister, Terri Brewer of Madisonville; and one granddaughter.

Ronald Wade Gipson, 49, of Marion died Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Crittenden Hospital. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his mother, Shelby Gipson; a brother, Ricky Gipson; and a sister -in-law, Barbara Gipson, all of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Henry Gipson.

Loveta J. Norman, 80, of Waterford, Mich., formerly of Elizabethtown, Ill., died Thursday, July 23, 2009.
Survivors include a son, Gary Norman; a granddaughter, Heather Norman; and a brother, James Ezra Banks Jr.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Byford Norman; a granddaughter, Angela Norman; and a sister.

Ira Andrews, 82, of Salem died Monday, July 27, 2009 at the Salem Springlake Nursing Home.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Andrews of Salem, Gary Andrews of Greenville, S.C., Floyd Andrews of Greenville S.C.; a daughter, daughter, Romona Anthony of Marengo, Ill., and 10 grandchildren.
At his own request, Andrews’ body was donated to the University of Louisville Medical School. Gilbert Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Hileman
Gertie Hileman, 77, of Eddyville died at 9:35 p.m., Monday, July 27, 2009 in Christian Care Center at Kuttawa.
She was retired from the custodial department of the Caldwell County School System with 30 years of service and was a member of Trinity Pentecostal Church in Fredonia.
Survivors include two daughters, Adline Gordon of Nortonville, Ky., and Faye Miller of Frances; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Hileman was preceded in death by her husband, Everett W. Hileman; and three sisters, Rella Driver, Alice Driver and Nellie Lynch. Her parents were Calvert Fraliex and Ethel Peek Fraliex.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm., Thursday, July 30 at Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel in Eddyville with Rev. James Driver and Rev. Marilyn Williams officiating. Burial will be in Norman Cemetery in Caldwell County.

Gene Dunning, 84, of Burna died Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Livingston Hospital.
Dunning was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Kentucky Board of Auctioneers and the Tennessee Walking Horse Association.

Dorothy Bennett, 88, of Eddyville died Monday, July 20, 2009 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah. She was a homemaker and a member of Dycusburg United Methodist Church.

J.W. Berry, 79, of Waverly, Ky., died Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.
Berry was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, a U.S. Army veteran from the Korean War era, a lifelong farmer, owner of J.W. Berry Trucking and he restored tractors and rebuilt horse-drawn equipment.

John G. Brown, 80, of Marion died Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Crittenden Hospital. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Frances Masonic Lodge No. 580 and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Margaret T. Fryar Suits, 84, of Salem died Monday, July 13, 2009 at her home. She was a member of Lola Pentecostal Church.

Thelma L. Royer, 73, of Battle Creek, Mich., died Tuesday, July 7, 2009.
She was born to William and Wilma Tharp Loftis on Sept. 11, 1935 in Salem, Ky.
She was a 1954 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and she worked as a lab technician for many years at the Community Hospital and at Post General Foods.
Survivors include her second husband, Donald Coffman of Marshall, Mich.; three sons, Rick Royer of Battle Creek, Gregory and wife Paula Royer of Battle Creek and Terry and wife Rhonda Royer of Acworth, Ga.; two brothers, William C. and wife Velma Loftis and Charles and wife Donna Loftis; two granddaughters, one grandson; seven step-grandchildren; and three step-daughters.
Royer was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Royer; her parents; a brother, Robert Loftis; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert Daniel “Popeye” Lawless, 72, of Burna, died Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Western Baptist Hospital.

Robert Henry Nation, 83, died Monday, June 1, 2009 at Methodist Hospital in Henderson. He was a native of Crittenden County, born to Elder Doss Nation and Lavada in Repton.
He attended Mattoon school 11 years and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Marines. He also taught Marine Cadets for 40 years at the Texas A&M University.
Survivors include his companion Betty Wilson Boyd of Henderson; and relatives in Ava, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; and two brothers, J.T. and D.A. Nation.
Arrangements are pending in Ava, Missouri.

Jerry “Roho” Beavers, 60, of Princeton, Ky., died at 1:18 p.m., Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center, Hopkinsville, following a short illness.
A native of Crittenden County, he was born Aug. 7, 1948, the son of Hattie Bell Turley Beavers and the late Marvin Welzie Beavers.
He was a towboat engineer and a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his stepdaughter, Sherry Ward Fralick of Princeton, and two grandchildren.

L.J. Andrews, 66, of Paducah, died at 12:15 a.m., June 15, 2009 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah. He was retired from New Page where he was an electrician and was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a paratrooper. Andrews was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church where he served as the church treasurer. He loved to work in his flower gardens and had been an avid sky diver.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Carol Darnell Andrews; one son, Lawrence Andrews and wife Mary Jane of Paducah; his former daughter-in-law Gena Hicks and husband Scotty of West Paducah; two sisters, Mary Baugh and Dale Pugh, both of Grove Hill, Ala.; a brother-in-law Gerald and Jan Darnall of Fishers, Ind.; and three grandchildren Nathan, Kayla and Savannah Andrews, all of West Paducah.
Andrews was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Andrews; his parents, Luther and Etta V. Boyette Andrews; and a sister, Katie Clarke.

Geneva McClure Foster, 86, formerly of Burna, died at 5:57 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2009 Newburgh Healthcare Center in Newburgh, Ind.
Foster was a retired homemaker and a long-time member of Hampton North Livingston Baptist Church. She was a very active and enthusiastic member of the Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 217 in Burna.
Survivors include her niece, Debbie Nelson of Evansville, Ind., and a great niece Donna Nelson of Evansville; great-great-niece and nephew Autumn and Logan; and sister-in-law, Ruby McClure of Elberfield, Ind. She was a cousin to the Kitchens family.

Floyd Monroe Jackson, 73, of Burna, died Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Livingston Hospital.
He was a member of New Life Pentecostal Church and he was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Janetta Jackson of Burna; daughter, Shelia Loveless of Burna; grandson, Derek Loveless and wife Kim of Burna; granddaughter, Deitra Loveless and husband Larry of Burna; great-grandsons, Jordan and Jaydon Loveless; great-granddaughters, Hannah and Micaela Suarez; sisters, Eulene Belt of Marion and Lucille Wayland of Golconda, Ill.; brother, James Marvin Jackson of Marion.

Kenneth Lynn Owen, 44, of Marion, died Sunday, June 7, 2009 at his residence.
Owen was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. He was also a member of Broken Spokes Motorcycle Club and the Carpenters Union Local 357.

Clara Oakley, 81, of Princeton died at 6:40 a.m., Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Caldwell County Hospital.
She was retired with 29 years service as a practical nurse for Dr. Kenneth L. Barnes in Princeton. Oakley was a member of Second Baptist Church in Princeton.
Suvivors include her husband, Wes Oakley; a son, John R. Teer of Princeton; a step-son, John Oakley of Benton; a brother, Vernon “Cap” Stinnett of Crittenden County; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy, Sammy and Percy Stinnett; a sister, Ann Patton; and by her parents, Bill Stinnett and Macie Travis Stinnett.

Mary Adeline Asbridge, 72, of Salem, died Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the Calvin Johnson Care Center in Bellville, Ill.
She was a member of Loveless Chapel Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include a sister, Thelma Martin of Marion; brother, Roni Asbridge of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Allen Asbridge, Ray Asbridge and Elmer Asbridge; and one sister, Cora Childress. Her parents were Allie and Christine Lewis Asbridge.

Charles Henry “Chuck” Coughran, 65, of Marion, formerly of Tumwater, Wash., died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield.
Coughran was a member of Senior Softball USA, the Softball Players Association and a Senior Olympic Gold Medalist in softball.

Lowry
Clifton Lowry, 87, of Owensboro, Ky., died Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Owensboro Mercy Health Systems.
He was born on July 13, 1921 in Crittenden County, the only son of Harvey Lowry and Maude McConnell Lowry.
Dr. Lowry was a practicing general surgeon in Owensboro for more than 30 years. He graduated from Western Kentucky University and the University of Louisville, School of Medicine. He spent his naval years in the South Pacific during the World War II, having served aboard the USS Enterprise (CV-6) on Dec. 7, 1941 Peal Harbor Day.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Leonard Lowry; daughters, Jennifer Purdue and husband Johnny of Corydon; and Connie Sanders and husband Neil of Bellville, Ill.; son, Dr. David Lowry and wife Brenda of Owensboro; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maxine Alexander of Paducah and Linda Lowry of Bremerton, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Maude McConnell Lowry; a son, Ancel Clay Lowry in 1982; and a sister, Evelyn Brown in 2003.

Tabor
John Richard “Dickie” Tabor, 66, of Lexington, Ky. died Saturday, May 9, 2009.
Born Sept. 5, 1942 in Evansville, Ind., he was the son of the late John Robert and Ann Nichols Tabor.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah “Dedie” Tabor; a daughter, Kristin Moore; two sons, Jason and wife Ashley Tabor and Travis and wife Amanda Hatfield; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Donna and husband Milton Strader.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joanna Tabor.
Tabor was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving for eight years and he was a retired project manager from IBM after 40 years. An avid fisherman, he was a member of the Bass Master Association and Porter Memorial Baptist Church.

Rev. Wallace York, 79, Princeton, died at 6:45 p.m., Sunday, May 10, 2009, at the Princeton Health and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.
A native of Henderson County, he was born Aug. 11, 1929, the son of the late Hershael Wallace and Addie Elizabeth Abbott York.
Since moving to Princeton in 2000, York served as interim minister at the Second Baptist Church, the Donaldson Baptist Church in Caldwell County, Bethany Baptist Church in Lyon County and was currently serving at the Central Baptist Church in Marion.
He was a retired Baptist minister who served as minister at the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Lexington, the First Baptist Church of Alexandria, was a missionary to Brazil with Baptist Faith Missions, and served as minister of Richland Baptist Church in Owen County, Olmstead Baptist Church, Julien Baptist Church, Grace Baptist Church and Twelve Ryan Baptist Church in Warren, Mich. In addition, he had served as associate minister at Ashland Avenue Baptist Church in Lexington.
A graduate of the Lexington Baptist College, he was the recipient of three honorary doctorate degrees.
He served nine years as dean of the Clarksville Baptist College, Clarksville, Tenn.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Hearn York; a son, Hershael York of Frankfort; two daughters, Karen and husband Chip Hutcheson of Princeton and Cynthia K. York of Lexington; a brother, Cecil York of Lexington; two sisters, Lula Mae Pryor of Georgetown, Esther Gilpin, Lexington; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Ruth Greenwell, 98, of Evansville, formerly of Morganfield, died at 1:29 p.m., Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Angel River Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was a member of Morganfield United Methodist Church and a member of D.A.R. She was an avid bridge player and an excellent "egger," crafting and decorating eggs as well as making doll clothes.
Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Frayer of Evansville; one son, Bill Greenwell of Marion; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Robert and Catherine Amelia Wilkins Hughes; her husband, Bill Wolf Greenwell; sisters, Jean Mauzy and Katie Kramer; and a half brother, Bill Hughes.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 6 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield with Rev. Don Davis officiating. Burial was at Saint Ann Cemetery in Morganfield.

Mitchell
George Earl Mitchell, 86, of Clay died at 7:47 a.m., Friday, May 1, 2009 at Shemwell Nursing Home in Providence.
He was born Aug. 6, 1922 in Clay to Henry and Mollie Mitchell. He graduated from Clay High School where he was captain of the football and basketball teams and president of his class. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, served on the Webster County Board of Education, the Clay City Council and had been a member of Webb Memorial United Methodist Church in Clay for over 70 years, where he was church treasurer for 25 years and taught Sunday school for over 50 years.
Mitchell worked for 23 years at O.B. Clark John Deere Implement Co., and 17 years for the postal service as a rural carrier.
Survivors include his daughter, Angie Newton of Bowling Green; his son, William E. Mitchell, who is Family Court Judge in Crittenden, Union, and Webster counties; four grandchildren, Joe Mitchell of Evansville, Mary Mitchell of Clay, Laura and Sarah Newton of Bowling Green; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Nathan Mitchell, both of Evansville and Brandon Mitchell of Clay.
He was preceded in death by his wife Juanita in 2007.
Funeral services were Monday, May 4 at Webb Memorial United Methodist Church in Clay with Bro. David Harting officiating. Burial was at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay.

Howard
Evalyn Ruth Howard, 89, of Salem died Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Salem Springlake Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was a member of Salem Baptist Church and a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Howard and wife Carolyn of Salem and Stuart Howard of Salem; grandchildren, Bobby Howard and wife Anita of Salem, Stephanie Goin and husband David of Ledbetter, Stacey Howard and wife Lisa of Salem, JoShanna Phillips and husband Josh of Manitou, Ky., Jae Rodgers and husband Shannon of Calvert City, Ky., and Tammy Wallace and husband Jason of Marion; great-grandchildren, Braden Locke, Aaron Locke, Jake Wallace, Jenna Wallace, Jack Howard, Josie Howard, Taylor Howard, Nolan Phillips and Cole Phillips.
Howard was preceded in death by her husband, Bradley Howard; and a daughter, Judith Howard Tyner. She was the daughter of R.C. and Clara Carter Guess.

William Harlon McElhaney, 65, of Salem, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Salem Springlake Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, R.C. McElhaney, and his mother and step-father, Beulah Arvella Woodall and Monroe Householder.

Katie Helen Chittenden Chandler, 96, of Smithland, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Salem Springlake Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was a member of McMurray Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Bennie Chandler and Dennie Chandler, both of Smithland; a daughter, Elva Vallandingham, of Smithland; one brother, George L. Chittenden of Carrsville; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Richard Holliday, 73, of Morganfield died Sunday, April 26, 2009 at his home.

Douglas Payne Johnson, 68, of Lexington, Ky., died Friday, April 24, 2009 at his daughter's residence in Lexington.
He retired from Central Bank in commercial lending after having been with First Security Bank for 29 nine years. He was born Sept. 9, 1940 in Eubank, Ky., the son of the late Marvin M. and Marcella Payne Johnson. He was a graduate of Transylvania University where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. He served as a trustee of Crestwood Christian Church where he was a member for 48 years. He was a member of The Lexington Club, Pyramid Club, Lion's Club, Central Bank Advisory Board and a former member of the Homebuilder's Association.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas Scott and wife Amy Johnson and David Crissman and wife Susie Johnson; daughter, Gina Johnson and husband John Welsch, all of Lexington; a sister, Linda and husband Doug Wooley of Marion; and seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Julia and Molly Welsch, Wiles and Sarah Johnson, Mackenzie and Will Johnson.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Crestwood Christian Church conducted by Rev. Colette Hensley. Burial was at Lexington Cemetery.

McDowell
Jean McDowell, 85, of Princeton, died at 4:10 p.m., Friday, April 24, 2009 at Princeton Health and Rehab.
She was a retired bookkeeper at Murray Drilling. She had also been a clerk at Sears and salesperson at Johnson’s Furniture & Appliance. McDowell attended Northside Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star, Princeton Chapter 315.
Survivors include one nephew, George Adams of Whiteland, Ind.; and four nieces, Carolyn Hall of Elizabethtown, Marilyn Gibson of Elizabethtown, Joanne Brunson of Germany and Gale Cherry of Princeton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Roy McDowell; her parents, Elmer and Minnie Alexander Cook; a sister, Evelyn Ward; a brother, Elwood Cook; and three nephews, Kenneth Ward, Neil “Cookie” Ward and Jim Adams.

She was a member of Deer Creek Baptist Church.

Agnes Louise Givens, 58 of Marion died Sunday, April 26, 2009 at her residence.
She was a housewife.

Barbara Raineri, 68 of Marion died Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Marion on April 7, 2009.

Mildred Watson Border, 91, of Marion died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.
She was a homemaker and member of Marion Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Dianne Watson Helms of Marion; grandchildren, Lisa Jepsen of Henderson, Ky., M.J., Tyler and Adam Watson, all of Marion; and great-grandchildren, Shelby and Taylor Jepsen of Henderson.

Gerald Ratley, 64, of Sturgis died at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 18, 2008 in Sturgis.
Ratley was a prominent Union County businessman and had owned and operated Ratley Trucking Company for 46 years.

Ratley of Sturgis; mother, Thelma Ratley of Sturgis; sister, Linda Omer of Morganfield; two sons, Jeff Ratley of Sturgis and Casey Ratley of Sturgis; three brothers, Bobby Ratley, Johnny Ratley and Tony Ratley, all of Sturgis; four granddaughters, Mallory, Callie, Dylana and Brooklynn Ratley; and one grandson, William Ratley.
He was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Ratley.

Leon Hodge, 72, of Marion died Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Crittenden Hospital.
With more than 31 years at U.S. Steel, Gary Works, Hodge retired in 1986 as a supervisor/turn foreman. He served in the U.S. Army and Reserves and received an honorable discharge in May of 1965.
Hodge was preceded in death by his wife, Pearline Hodge; parents, Hughey and Cleo Belt Hodge; sister, Iva Jean Hall; and a step-son, Samuel Story.
Survivors include his daughters, Tanya (Dewey) Ramage of Marion, Cindy Hodge-Stoye of Bellvue, Mich., and Sandra Hodge of Portage, Ind. From his marriage with Pearline, surviving are Rodney and wife Margaret Duff, Patricia Capito and David Story. Howard Eugene Miller, 69, of Smithland, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Lourdes Hospital.
He was a member of McMurray Chapel Methodist Church, worked at CCMA in Calvert City for 39 years and was a member of UAW Local 523.
Survivors include his wife, Rowena Miller of Smithland; children, Genevia Smith and husband Larry of Reidland, Tommy Miller and wife Glenda of Smithland; granddaughter, Casie Blair and husband Daniel of Paducah; and grandson, Robby Smith of Reidland.

Dorothy B. Booker, 90, of Marion died Friday, April, 10 2009 her home.
She was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Marion and the Retired School Teachers Organization. Booker was a teacher in the Caldwell and Crittenden school systems for 39 years.
Survivors include a son, James D. Booker; two daughters, Joanne Winn of Fredonia and Judy Casebier of Lancaster, Ky.; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was a retired nurse’s aide at Hilltop Nursing Home.

Survivors include her daughter, Jamie Gilkey, of Princeton, Ky.; one sister, Linda Purvis of Brandon, Miss.; grandchildren, Mandy Hooks, T.J. Gilkey and Kaitlyn Gilkey, all of Princeton, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.

William Edwin Arflack, 87, of Marion died Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Crittenden Hospital.
He was a retired rural mailcarrier and a member and deacon of Marion Baptist Church. Arflack was a U.S. Army Air World War II veteran. He was a member of the Bingham Lodge #256 F&AM and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors include his wife, Willa Belle Arflack of Marion; a daughter, Mary Jo Delaney of Louisville; a son, Donald Arflack of Marion; brother, George E. Jace Holloman, 52, of Columbia, S.C., died April 6, 2009 at his home.
He was formerly of Marion and served in the U.S. Army.

Glen McCaddam “Mac” Whitt, 55, of Paris, Ky., died Sunday, April 5, 2009 at Hospice Care Center in Paris.
He was born Jan 4, 1954 in Marion, the son of Clara Lee McCaddam Whitt and the late Willis Oliver Whitt.
He was a skilled trades team member at Toyota Manufacturing, a graduate of Western Kentucky University and a member of First Christian Church.

Rose Mary “Rosie” Koltveit, 56, of Odell, Ill., died Monday March 23, 2009 at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.
She was born July 7, 1952 in Fairbury, Ill., to Rudolf M. Koltveit and Mary Wilson.
Survivors include her mother, Mary Wilson; son, Matthew C. Meyers of Chatsworth, Ill.; two brothers, Kenneth C. Koltveit and wife Janet of Odell, Ill., and William A. L. Keith Shewcraft, 71, of Marion died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Crittenden Hospital in Marion.
He was a member of Fredonia First Baptist Church and a member of the National Trail Ride Association.
Surviving are his wife, Kay Shewcraft of Marion; son, Shelby Keith Shewcraft of Marion; daughters, Maria Lee Belt and Caryn Renee Steele both of Marion; brother, Carlton Shewcraft of Marion, Ill.; sisters, Betty Hodges of Marion, and Edna Macon, Dorothy Young, Nell Martin and Carolyn DeSpain, all of Owensboro, Ky., seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Shewcraft was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Oda Lee Patton Shewcraft.

Woodall
Wilbur "Woody" Arthur Woodall, 83, of Evansville, Ind., died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at VNA Charlier Hospice Center.
He retired as director of finance for the United States Postal Service in Evansville, Ind. Woodall was a graduate of Marion High School and the University of Evansville. He served in the United States Army as a platoon sergeant during World War II and in the European campaigns where he received many decorations including two Purple Hearts, three Bronze Stars and a Presidential Unit Citation.
He was a 33rd Degree Mason, a 50-year active member of Lessing Lodge #464, where he was past master, High Twelve #240, Scottish Rite and the Hadi Temple. He was also a member of Fairlawn United Methodist Church and was head usher and lay leader for many years. He was named Kentucky Colonel and Duke of Paducah.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald Woodall and his wife Debbie of Downers Grove, Ill., Stephen G. Woodall and wife Darla of Evansville, Ind., a daughter-in-law, Rosalie Woodall of Evansville; sisters, Hilda Mae Alexander and her husband Charles of Crittenden County, Louise Ball of Evansville, Lois Miller of Henderson, Ky.; grandchildren, Julie Underwood and her husband Carl, Sarah Woodall, and Jessica Woodall all of Evansville, Lance Cpl. Andrew Woodall and his wife Cpl. Ashley Woodall of Jacksonville, N.C., great-grandchildren, Dean Underwood, Camryn Woodall; and many nieces and nephews.
Woodall was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Woodall in 2008; and son, Larry Woodall in 2007.

Imogene D. (Hardesty) Higginson Frohbieter Manchette, 83, of Evansville, Ind., died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Columbia Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on May 14, 1925, in Elizabethtown, Ill., but grew up in Marion where she graduated from Marion High School.
Early in her life she went to Evansville, Ind., to work at Servel Corp., during World War II. There she met and married Harley H. Higginson, Jr., a co-worker. She later worked at the Baby Shop Downtown, Dale Sales, Marshall Glove, Springfield Wife and finally Keller Crescent Corp.
Manchette was preceded in death by all of her siblings, her grandparents, Arthur and Ellen Nation Belt; her parents, Joseph H. and Pearl Belt Hardesty; and a son, N. Glenn Higginson. She was the last surviving sibling of a 16-member family.
Survivors include her sons, Don and wife Vicki Higginson and R. Harley and wife Jane Higginson; a daughter-in-law, Linda Higginson; six grandchildren, Dara, Kelly, Erinn, Yvette, Derick, and Cale Higginson; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, March 20 at Alexander North Chapel in Evansville with burial at Sunset Memorial Park.

Infant Maryann Renee McDonald died March 4, 2009 at Livingston Hospital.

She worked for Riverview Hospital as a registered nurse. Graves was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church and a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Radiant Chapter 200 in Noblesville.

Kirchgessner
Joseph J. Kirchgessner, 50, of Russiaville, Ind., died at 12:34 p.m., Friday, March 20, 2009 at Howard Regional Health Systems in Kokomo, Ind.
He was born July 20, 1958 in Gary, Ind., to Albert and Mary June (Patton) Kirchgessner. He graduated from Crittenden County High School in 1976 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1976-80 in the Security Police Squadron 51. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Kirchgessner was the co-manager of Hobby Lobby for the past two years and had previously worked at Sterks Grocery in Illinois.
Survivors include his father, Albert Kirchgessner and wife Lisa of Burns Harbor, Ind.; his wife Kristina Kirchgessner of Russiaville; children, Joseph J. Kirchgessner of Columbia, S.C., and Sarah A. Kirchgessner and Corey J. Kirchgessner, both of Russiaville; a sister, Darci Metcalf and her friend Scott Hamby of Marion; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Debbie and Ron Wons of Hortonville, Wisc., Danette and Louie Godinez of Elk Grove, Calif., and Donald Swanson of Hammond, Ind.

Lt. Col. George Edward McKinney (ret.), 74, of Marion, died Friday, March 13, 2009 at Crittenden Hospital.
McKinney was a member of Deer Creek Baptist Church and was active in the jail ministry. He was a retired lieutenant colonel with over 35 years of active and reserve duty in the U.S. Army.

Dr. W. Leslie Chapman, 82 of Henderson died at 12:45 p.m., Friday, March 13, 2009, at Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro.
He was a retired United Methodist minister and past superintendent of Henderson District United Methodist Church. One of his first assignments as a young pastor was in Tolu, where Chapman developed lifelong friendships with church members and their families.
He served 12 pastorates in the Kentucky Conference, during his career. He was a graduate of Asbury College and Vanderbilt School of Divinity and held an honorary doctorate degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College.
Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn White and her husband John, of Falmouth, Ky.; one son, Dr. Scott Chapman and his wife, Mary Anne of Henderson; one brother, Ron Chapman of Henderson; five grandchildren; and one niece and one nephew.

Carl Odell Cobb, 81, of Paducah died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 at his residence.
He was an active member and trustee of Pinckneyville Baptist Church where he was proud to be the Sunday morning greeter.
Cobb was yard superintendent for 33 years at CC Metals and Alloys of Calvert City. He was a hunter and lifetime active and honorary member of Calvert City Gun Club where he held various championship shooting titles. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and served in the U.S. Navy as a drill sergeant.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Virginia Cobb of Paducah; three children, Benny Cobb of Reidland, Sandra Cobb of Reidland, and Connie and husband Ronnie Kitchens of Salem; three grandchildren, Rudy Cobb of Salem, Tara McCleane of Hernando, Miss., and Ryan Kitchens of Salem; three great-grandchildren, Bryan Cobb of Salem, and Samuel McCleane and Sawyer McCleane, both of Hernando; one brother, Jimmy Deon Cobb of Burna; two sisters, Sue Adams of Jasper, Ind., and Cena Cobb of Salem; and several nieces and nephews.

Stallion
Dallas Dick Stallion, 86, of Leesburg, Fla., died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 at Cornerstone Hospice House in Leesburg.
Stallion was born April 15, 1922 in Sheridan. He retired as a hoist man for Island Creek Coal Company in Morganfield. He served as sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a life member of the Masonic Lodge of Marion and was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 1991. Stallion was a member of Southpointe Baptist Church in Leesburg.
Survivors include his wife for over 61 years, Naomi Fritts Stallion of Leesburg; daughters, Charlotte Stallion Gillott of Sarasota, Fla., Dr. Brenda Stallion-Barkley and husband Stephen of New Hope, Penn.; one son, William “Bill” Stallion and wife Diane of Grand Rivers; a sister, Dorothy Stallion Finnegan of Southbury, Conn.; two grandchildren, Kristal Stallion Noles and Sabrina Stallion Hanson; and three great-grandchildren, Daphne, Amella and Phoebe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Harvey Stallion and Betty Agnes Clark Stallion; seven brothers; and five sisters.
Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 21 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor Ron Cook of Leesburg officiating.

Hunt
Elder William E. Hunt, 96, of Crittenden County died at 1:30 p.m., Friday Feb. 13, 2009 at his daughter’s home in Marion.
He was born Nov. 14, 1912 in Marion, the son of the late Harvey and Carrie Hunt of Marion. He was a long time member of Pleasant Hill Regular Baptist Church outside Marion where he served faithfully as pastor for 45 years. He was a 53-year member of the Bigham Lodge #256 F&AM where he served as chaplain for many years and was a member of the York Rite Bodies in Princeton. He was the past co-owner of Hunt Brothers Feed Store for 30 years and past member and chairman of both the Crittenden County Hospital Board and its Building Commission. He had been a long-time member of the Crittenden County Hospital Board and its building commission. Hunt was also a long-serving member of the Crittenden County Ministerial Association.
Survivors include his daughter, Linda L. Easley and son-in-law Joseph L. Easley of Marion; a son, John W. Hunt of Evansville; grandsons, Jae Easley of Lexington, S.C., Lee Easley of Knoxville, Tenn., and Chris Hunt of Lexington; granddaughter, Paige Timmons of Sumter, S.C.; great-granddaughter, Anna Easley of Pinewood, S.C.; and sisters, Lena Belt and Libby Abell of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 65 years, Virginia Lee Turley Hunt; his parents; four brothers, Maynard, John A., Tim and Shorty Hunt; and one sister, Dell Ramsey.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Jerry Thurman officiating, assisted by Brother Rodney Paris and Sister Lucy Tedrick. A Masonic funeral was held Monday, Feb. 16. Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Corley
Harold E. Corley, 86, of Shelbyville, Ky., formerly of Marion, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009.
He was the son of the late Calvin and Zella Corley of Crittenden County and moved to Shelbyville in 1969. Corley was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army spending more than half his time in the European Theater. He was a member and Deacon of Fair Haven Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Lilly Corley; a son, Donald W. Corley of Shelbyville; a daughter, Beth Corley of Nashville; a brother, Maurice G. Corley of Marion; two grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 19 at Hillcrest Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Rev. Charles Williams officiating. Burial was at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Shelbyville.

Vera I. Stalion, 90, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., formerly of Marion, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009 at Myrtle Beach.
Survivors include a daughter, Vera Lois Winders of Paducah; a brother, Paul Ingram of Marion; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Stalion, and three brothers.
Stalion was the daughter of Evan and Bertha Riley Ingram.

Belt
Ellie Mae Belt, 84, of Marion died at 5:38 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009 at Crittenden County Health and Rehab. She was a member of Seven Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Donald and wife Dorris Martin of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Reita and husband Jerry Lovern of Morganfield; sisters, Loisteen Canada of Princeton, Betty Glenn of Dycusburg and Thelma Brown of Marion; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Belt was preceded in death by her first husband, Willie Ray Martin; second husband, James Clifton Belt; daughter, Patricia Mae Martin; three brothers; and two sisters. Her parents were Bedford and Mayme Blake.

Charles Homer Henry, 67, of Marion died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009 at Livingston Hospital.
He was an automobile mechanic, was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Eagles and Masonic Lodge 192 F&AM of Westville, Ind.
Survivors include his sons, Shaun Henry of San Antonio, Texas and Timmy Henry of Plainfield, Ill.; daughters, Cindy Call of Portage, Ind.; Devon Kovacik of Hobart, Ind., and Sherry Nordengreen of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, JoAnna Stone of Marion; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Rex and Etheleen Schafer Henry, and a sister.

Chaney
Joann Chaney, 76 of Dycusburg died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009 in Alive Hospice Center in Nashville, Tenn.
She was retired as substitute postmaster for the Dycusburg Post Office and a former sales representative for Avon in the Crittenden County area. Chaney was a member of Dycusburg Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, James Chaney; a son, Vic Chaney of San Francisco, Calif.; three brothers, Don Green of Mayfield, Ronnie and Kerry Green, both of Dycusburg; three sisters, Ginny Brown of Eddyville, Nancy Rideout of High Ridge, Mo., Betty Guier of Cadiz; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Duke, J.C., Luther and Oscar Green; and by her parents, Tom Green and Mae Henry Green.
Funeral services were Friday at Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel in Eddyville with the Rev. Jeremiah Burdon officiating. Burial was at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville.

Betty Mae Howard, 78, of Salem, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at Crittenden Hospital.
She was retired from Burkhart Rural Health Systems.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Billy C. Howard of Salem; two sons, Michael Howard of Gilbertsville and Mark Howard of Salem; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Richardson and Jack Richardson; and her parents, William “Bill” and Fannie Wring Richardson.

Verna J. McDonald, 71 of Salem died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 at her residence. She was a member of Carrsville Pentecostal Church.

Kenneth M. “Mickey” Winn, 69, of Fredonia died at 7:15 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 at Crittenden Hospital of natural causes.
He was a retired farmer and attended Flat Rock Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Charles Dennis Rorer Sr., 80, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009. He was a native of Marion, the son of L.D. and Leta Elnora Guess Rorer. He was a retired restaurant manger.

Harvey Miller Hill, 84, of Mayfield died at 6 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009 at Mills Health and Rehab Center in Mayfield.
Hill was of the Baptist faith and a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.

James Owens, 73, of Oswego, Ill., died Feb. 8, 2009 at Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, Ill.
Owens was a member of American Legion Post 489 in Yorkville, Ill.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Owens of Oswego, Ill.; daughter, Patricia Owens of Paducah; sons, James E. Owens of Ledbetter and Daniel Owens of Oswego; step-daughter, Janet Madden; step-son, Robert Griffith of Detroit; sisters, Georgia Hensley of Grand Rivers and Jennie Lee Clark of Paducah; brother, Billy Owens of Smithland; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Hughes
Margaret "Maurine" (Hayes) Hughes, 96, of Marion died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009 at St Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
She was born in Sullivan County, Mo., the daughter of William Oscar Hayes and Dora Belle (Mairs) Hayes. Hughes graduated from Green City High School in Green City, Mo., in 1932, then began teaching in a one-room school. She taught school during the winter and went to college during the spring and summer terms at Northeast Missouri State College (now Truman University) in Kirksville, Mo. In 1946, she married Eugene Hughes and moved to his hometown, Marion.
Hughes taught school full-time in the Marion school system for one year. Later, she did a considerable amount of substitute teaching in Marion and the Crittenden County schools. She was a substitute teacher for over 25 years.
She was a charter member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Margaret and husband Darrell Burnam of Sturgis; granddaughter, Ann and husband Jeremy Bryant of Zionsville, Ind.; grandson, Bill and wife Angela Burnam of North Lauderdale, Fla.; a great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Bryant of Zionsville, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Hughes; two brothers; and two sisters.
Services are at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 14 at Central Baptist Church in Marion with burial in Mapleview Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5-9 p.m., Friday at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion, and from 9 a.m., until service time Saturday at the church.

Kenneth Wayne Deboe, 71, of Lake Station, Ind., formerly of Crittenden County, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2009.
He was a son of the late Paul P. DeBoe and Anna Ruth Rorer.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Martha L. DeBoe; two daughters, Carolyn and husband Dale Brust of Wannatah, Ind., and Sarah and husband Greg Woelk of Lake Station; six grandchildren, Shanya Meyer, Jeremy Horn, Patricia DeBoe, Jack Johnson, Gregory Woelk Jr., and Thomas Woelk; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert and wife Linda DeBoe and Donald and wife Dean BeBoe, all of Marion; a sister, Anna Pauline Lee of Eddyville; and seven half-brothers and sisters.

Pauletta Frankaline Hill, 83, of Marion died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009 at Salem Springlake Health and Rehab Center. She was a member of Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church in Salem.
Survivors include daughters, Betty Willis of Paducah, Mary and husband Roy James of Henderson, Carolyn and husband Richard Manley of Lexington, Ky.; sons, Henry “Bob” and wife Janice Hill, Charles and wife Eva Hill, William “Bill” and wife Tanya Hill and Tony Hill, all of Marion; 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Hill was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Hill and three sisters.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 17 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion. Burial was at Lewis Cemetery.

Andrews
Laura Andrews, 59, of Marion died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009 at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.
She was a member of Paducah Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Andrews of Marion; sons, Josh Andrews of St. Louis, Mo., Wade Andrews of Murray and Jared Andrews of Harrisonburg, Va.; her mother, Pansy Martin of Chicago; sisters, Judy Capello, Sheila Strand and Jackie Shannon, all of Chicago; and four grandchildren.
Andrews was preceded in death by her father Gerald Lammert.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 22 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion. Burial will be at Frances Cemetery. Visitation was Wednesday night from 5-9 p.m.

Cosby
Jackie Cosby, 63, of Marion died Wednesday, Jan.. 14, 2009 at Crittenden Hospital.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella Cosby of Marion; sons, Jim, Tim and Jason Cosby, all of Marion; brothers, Glenn Cosby of Salem, Donald Cosby of Sullivan, Bruce Cosby of Providence and Wayne Cosby of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters, Helen Jones of Marion and Phyllis Anderson of Florida; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 17 at Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion.

Spiceland
Lucille Spiceland, 93, of Ann Arbor, Mich., formerly of Marion, died Jan. 12, 2009 at her home.
She was a homemaker and member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Calloway County.
Survivors include a daughter, Andra Deline of Ann Arbor; and two grandchildren, Sydney Deline and Robert Deline of Ann Arbor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Spiceland, who was a former principal of Tolu School; her parents, Samuel Abel and Ellen Underwood Harris; two brothers; a sister; two half brothers; and a half sister.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 17 at J.H. Churchill Funeral Home in Murray with Rev. Eugene Burkeen officiating. Burial was at Murray City Cemetery.

Croft
Dennis D. Croft, 91, of Salem died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009 at Livingston Hospital.
He was a member of Salem Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy “Sis” Threlkeld of Ledbetter; a son, Bub Croft of Salem; one sister, Melva Shouse of Lola; four grandchildren, Debbie Willbanks of Salem, Christy Lawley of Birmingham, Ala., Dee Thomason of Ledbetter, and Shelly Keeling of Grand Rivers; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley Willbanks, Samantha Willbanks, Allie Willbanks, Cameron Thomason, Olivia Thomason, Joshua Lawley, Anna Grace Lawley and Kayla Keeling.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Deanie Croft; his parents, Herman and Nettie Vaugh Croft; one sister; and three brothers.

Vilas Alpha Walton, 85, of Marion died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 at Salem Springlake Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was a member of Marion Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca J. Walton of Marion; a son, Bill Walton of Glendale, Ariz.; step-children, Belinda Cantrell of Florida, Beth Belt of Marion and Jeffrey Lester of Marion; two sisters, Marcella Huff of Missouri and Marian Claman of Galesburg, Ill.; one brother, Melvin Walton of Hutchison, Kan.; two grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
Walton was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Orpha DeGroff Walton, and a brother, Thomas Walton, Jr.

John Cox, 85, of Fredonia died at 3:15 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 25 at Hilltop Nursing Home in Kuttawa.
He was a retired farmer, member of Central Baptist Church in Marion and U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Belt Cox; two sons, David Cox and wife Carla of Calvert City and Paul Cox of Murray; a daughter, Rebecca Sizemore and husband Zachary of Berea; a brother, Minos Cox of Fredonia; a sister, Mary Green of Fredonia; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Cox was preceded in death by a son, Charles Russell Cox; a grandson, Tanner Cox; a twin sister, Jean Holloway; and another sister, Marcell Shumaker. His parents were Sammy Joseph and Pearl Cates Cox.
Funeral services were Saturday at Morgan Funeal Home in Princeton. Burial was at Fredonia Cemetery.

J.E. Cannon, 68, of Marion died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008 at his residence.
He was retired from the maintenance department at the Whirlpool Corporation in Evansville, was a U.S. Army veteran and member of the Crayne Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Bettie Cannon of Marion; a son, Donald Cannon of Reo, Ind.; daughters, Bridget Porter of Evansville, Sharon Phelps of Marion and Cathy Deller of Evansville; brothers, Harley Cannon of Calvert City; Harold Cannon of Marion, David Cannon of Newburgh, Ind.; a sister, Dorothy Harmon of Louisville; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lexie and Eula Hunt Cannon; a brother; and a sister.
Funeral services were Sunday, Dec. 28 at Crayne Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steve Graham officiating. Burial was at Mapleview Cemetery in Marion.

Evitts
Prentis “Pat” Evitts, 67, of Salem died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008 at Livingston Hospital.
He was a retired security guard.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Evitts of Salem; sons, Joey, Paul, Brock and Jimmie Evitts, all of Michigan and Tracy Evitts of Virginia; a daughter, Lori Plourde of Michigan; stepson, Charles Floyd of Arkansas; brothers, Danny and Bruce Evitts, both of Paducah; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Prentis and Wanda Evans Evitts, a sister and a step-daughter.

Leon Hodges, 78, of Marion died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.
He was a Korean War veteran as well as a Kentucky Colonel. He was a retired group leader and assistant manager of Moore's Business Forms in Marion and Denton, Texas, and at Sam's Club in Nashville, Tenn. He was a deacon at Mexico Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Betty Lou Shewcraft Hodges; three children, Debra Denise Hodges of Crayne, Danny Kent Hodges and wife Vickie of Marion and David Carl Hodges and wife Tamie of Benton; grandchildren, Danny Aaron Fowler of Marion, Joseph Leon Fowler and wife Jenny of Marion, Dana Hodges West and husband Chris of Cadiz, Anna Jimenez and Chris Nelson of Marion and Matthew David Hodges and Amanda Michelle Hodges of Benton; three great-grandchildren, Emma Grace West of Cadiz, Jantzen Fowler of Marion and Brian Nelson of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents Albert Vernon Hodges and Lucy Wiggington Hodges; three sisters, Velda Lamb, Geneva Chandler and Macie Sigler; a brother, Jesse Carlos Hodges; and one great-grandson, Jayden Fowler.
Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009 at Mexico Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Burdon officiating. Burial was at Mexico Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites. Gilbert Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Glen D. Bradford, 72, of Salem died Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 at Salem Springlake Health and Rehab Center in Salem.
Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Bradford of Oklahoma; two sons Wayne Bradford of Marion and Darrell Bradford of Sullivan, Ind.; two brothers, Robert Bradford of Salem and Burnie Bradford of Marion; a sister, Margaret Benton of Eddyville; and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Burnie and Freda Sexton Bradford; three brothers; and a sister.
Private services were held and burial was at Salem Cemetery. Boyd Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.

Perryman
Steven Wayne Perryman, 63, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Marion, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008 at his home. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Rosalina Perryman of Leesburg; a son, Jackson Claude Perryman of Princeton, Ind.; his mother, Geneva Raye Perryman of Marion; brothers, Richard L. Perryman and Stanley E. Perryman, both of Grapevine, Texas, Michael Perryman of Marion and James R. Perryman of Birmingham, Ala.; sisters, Sandra Ernestine Libby of Los Angeles, Calif., Joanna Hookstratten of Grapevine, Texas, Patti Gilbert of Marion and Sherry K. Henderson of Xenia, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Louie Perryman.

Robert Fountain, 40, of Henderson died Saturday, Jan. 3 at Methodist Hospital in Henderson.
Survivors include brothers, Curtis LeMay Fountain of West Branch, Iowa and David Allen Fountain of Martello, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald D. Fountain, and mother, Judith A. Blaha.
